I once broke up with a lady over my dogs. My dogs were accustomed to sleeping on my bed at night. She said, “If we get married, the dogs are NOT sleeping on the bed”! I tried to explain to her that if I accented to her request, the dogs would feel that they were being punished for some wrong doing. And they would possibly hate her, too. So, I keep my dogs and left her.

After 3 years together with no allergy symptoms, my second wife tried to pull a “power play” to get my cat out of the bedroom, by declaring she was allergic to cats. After a doctor confirmed my opinion that she was not allergic, she presented the doctor’s suggestion than the cat might bring other allergens in from outside and should sleep in another room. I told her we could try that, but that I was going to sleeping in the room with the cat. She never mentioned anything about allergies again.
