Ah, Playboy, the magazine that combined brilliant writing, refined taste, and a stepping stone for a great many legendary authors… with “Take a gander at these bazooms!”

I only looked at it for the photos…. I MEAN the articles! (Whew! Got away with that one…. )

I first saw Shel Silverstein’s cartoons in playboy. And what about Gahan Wilson?

hefner……..had more respect for women than any GOP’er, or dRUMPf for that matter. but then that’s a VERY low bar.

One of my older brothers had a subscription. I would borrow it and read the articles and laugh at the funnies (remember “granny”?) On the sly, of course. Neither of us thought it would be good if my mom knew.

Tom Petty’s memorial strip had Opus and Frank trading lyrics from “Won’t back down.”

Haven’t seen a Playboy in decades, I think. Mostly went for the jokes and cartoons. The photos were a bit too processed and divorced from real life to really appeal much.

Opus! Haven’t you eaten those cookies yet?! Abby will have your scalp (anthropomorphized penguins have scalps, I’m pretty sure).

Lovely. Let’s commemorate a guy who championed the objectification and fetishizing of women as playthings and parlor pets to amuse men. Who popularized the idea that men get to sit there comfortably and dignified while giving intense scrutiny to women’s most personal and private physical parts. No harm in it at all, right? No one took women seriously in the first place, they’re there to be nakedly vulnerable and degraded for men’s pleasure and entertainment— and of course no one likes them when they reach middle age or older, because the ONLY likable purpose they have is as young sex objects.

Thanks for commemorating the man who popularized this as though he were some kind of hero.

Those lines should be on his head stone.
