Interesting factoids: the oldest human fossils we have found date from 200,000 years ago; for penguins it is 50 million years; for hermit crabs, 200 million years. Wonder what it means that the species that has been here the shortest time has the fewest chromosomes?
I would hold a mirror up to a hermit crab and say “254 chromosomes and THIS is the best you could come up with? You can’t even make your own shell to cover your soft body!” And penguins, you’re a bird that can’t fly! HUMANS RULE!
“It’s not the number of chromosomes, it’s what you do with them. Also, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. Also, how many chromosomes do dogs have?”

Moral of the story: become a hermit.

I don’t understand what he’s saying in the second panel: “Humans have only have 46 chromosomes.” Is that somehow in the past tense?

Sounds more like someone didn’t proofread before they published.

Hermit crabs NEED 254, to adjust to different shells.

It doesn’t matter. We are all mutants. Both of our most distant ancestors were viruses.

It is not the number of chromosomes that matter, it is the number of active genes that do.
