Beyond sad…… during these times, you wonder if the sun will rise tomorrow morning.

When our beloved Margaret died, I gathered up her collar, blanket, winter sweater, leash, her baby collar and leash, her bowls, a couple representative toys, photos, and put them in a special box with her picture on top. It is a permanent keepsake of our treasured time together. We pull it out every year and tell stories, share memories, and even shed a tear or two. We will do the same for our current perfectly imperfect dog.

Love the use of blank space. To me it shows the emptiness you currently are experiencing. I had my bird cremated and kept one long feather that I have in a little vase next to my computer (her ashes are in a box next to the computer also). She always liked to sit on my shoulder while I was on the computer. Darn — tearing up again.

Seeing the sadness they are going through reminds me of our Katie and Samantha, a yellow lab and basset hound respectively. They passed several years apart, but what was truly sad was that we had to keep them in the freezer, in the basement, until we could bury them in the Spring. I didn’t like having to do that, but it was the only acceptable alternative.

If I might suggest – keep Lucy’s collar and a bowl, but bring the rest to the shelter. I’m sure that there are a lot of other pups who would love to us them and what better tribute to a terrible dog that you loved and always will.

I wish I’d never washed our beloved Buddy’s blanket. But we have many pictures (some framed) and lots of memories!

One of our cats loves to rub on the late belle’s dog collar. They were buddies.

I had to put my kitty down a few months ago. There is nothing more heart wrenching about having to do that.
