My prospective father-in-law, who taught mathematics and golf at the local high school, invited me to play a round of golf with him. I had never even held a golf club up to that point but I could tell the difference between a golf ball and a tennis ball, in good light.
I’m sure it was absolutely the longest round of golf he had ever played. He was a good sport, though, and gave me his blessing to marry this daughter. He never invited me to go golfing again and I didn’t try to marry his other daughter. :)

I quit after I lost 8 balls on the front 9. After the 9th hole, I threw the 9th ball at a pond…and missed.
