This is reminding me a little bit of the Calvin and Hobbes arc where Uncle Max came to visit, then after that, he never showed up again, because according to Bill Watterson himself, it just felt awkward to not have Uncle Max refer to Calvin’s parents by name since they were unnamed in the strip.
Thomas the Tank Engine had PLENTY of episodes (especially in its fourth season) where Thomas wasn’t present, and by golly, the show still SLAPPED! It’s the same with Buckles: Ya don’t need to have the “adorable” main protagonist CONSTANTLY present.
