Talking animals, like Dr. Dolittle…..

I like this. It always interests me when they’ve got a talking animal in a TV show or comic, but they don’t actually acknowledge it—they never basically say “Yes, this is indeed a world where animals can talk and think just like humans”. That’s the case with a lot of cartoons—manga characters usually don’t talk about how huge their eyes are. Nor does Donald Duck, when in trouble, try to fly away, despite being a duck.

In Donald’s case that’s because the story always treats him like a human being drawn with duck features, of course. Standard for Disney. That’s why the old Three Little Pigs short is so freaky. For all intents and purposes, that Big Bad Wolf is like a human trying to eat three other humans. We’ve basically got Hannibal Lecter in cartoon form.

Indeed, Buckles, indeed!

Buckles your jealousy is just precious.

Buckles, no need to wonder what breed you are, you’re an attention hound…

“Talking animals, how ludicrous!” Love that last Buckles line today.
