I’ll spell it for you Ronshua: t-r-a-n-s-m-o-g-r-i-f-i-e-r. It’s one of Calvin’s world famous inventions, lately upgraded for working on solar cells, so you don’t need batteries. I don’t know if it can be purchased in your country. Better try Korea or China.
When I was a little kid I used to have my pockets full of junk: marbles, a piece of string, a penknife, a scissors, a magnifying glass, a pencil, a slip of paper, a catapult,……..
Who wants to be a bird, when you can be a PTERODACTYL! Do it already Calvin! :-)
(Btw guys, I’ve been reading Calvin as a guest for months now, I find your comments sometimes just as insightful, I’m sure Bill would be proud with such a fanbase)
I don’t know about the transmogrifier, but this cartoon is ‘loaded’.
“I Didn’t Know the Gun Was Loaded”.
“There’s a Song in My Heart.”…most of the time. I hope people recognize some of them.
Calvin still can ‘gum up the works’, but at least he won’t become a ‘chew-chew’. If you don’t follow my ‘train’ of thought’, you’re on the wrong ‘track’? Please don’t ‘rail’ at me.
Most of you guys and gals are ‘punny’ at times, so I trust you won’t get ‘steamed’ up over mine. Some people might even give me credit for a little ‘engine-uity’.
I hope nobody comes out of nowhere and gets the ‘drop’ on Calvin. “Drop that transmogrifier, Calvin!.” At least it won’t be a ‘gum-drop’.
Superfrog said,
“I hope that thing’s loaded.”
Apparently, that means he’d rather not have to rescue Calvin, himself.
The Porter at The House of Harfang called Puddleglum
‘Froggy’, so perhaps Puddleglum could come to the rescue if necessary “Plunk your magic Twanger, Froggy!” Does anyone remember Smilin’ Ed McConnell and the Buster Brown Gang?
BTW I suppose I’m not the only one who goes back and reads the final comments from yesterday. Sometimes, issues among contributors are ‘resolved’ at the end.
Leonardeuler,
a catapult…? Are you from “Wizard of Id”?
Or are you referring to a slingshot?
David found a slingshot rather useful in his encounter with Goliath.
I don’t know from what country Ronshua is, but with that ending on his or her name (I don’t know the gender either), he or she might be Jewish. I wonder whether he or she knows Yeshua ha Meshiakh (Jesus the Christ).
Thanks for straitening my out , I figured it wasn’t one of those domesticated thingies . ( it’s seeping back ) Occasionally a puppy would be first to enjoying the Sunday comics .
Some of our techs developed a unique signal manipulation tool for our test labs 20-some years ago that is still in use. it’s official title is Transmogrifier.
What did the above have to do with Calvin? Or does Cocaine make you feel you your free falling? I do not take illegal drugs.
At least Calvin can make the most of his mid air desent. With comics, the writer can make as long as they want.
@puddleGlumTwo, what a good idea! From now on, I too will go back to see the comments that came after mine on the previous day (well, I’ll try to do it - it depends on the amount of time I have to spare). Trouble is, I’m usually one of the last to post, because I don’t get around to reading these comics till late in the day. So when I’m replying to someone else’s comment, it seems hardly worth while, because I always wonder whether they will ever see my reply.
@RinaFarina: i read multiple times during the day (when i can), and sometimes even go back to previous days to see if my comments have elicited responses. for me, part of the fun of gocomics is the dialogue attached to the strips.
I lost my head reminiscing of ” and this is my dog , his name is Tage and he lives in there too .”
Drifting to –The Whistler was one of American radio’s most popular mystery dramas, with a 13-year run from May 16, 1942 until September 22, 1955.The Whistler was the most popular West Coast-originated program with its listeners for many years. It was sponsored by the Signal Oil Company: “That whistle is your signal for the Signal Oil program, The Whistler.”
I was born in May of 1942 .
And then –The series was inspired by the 1948 “semi-documentary” feature, The Naked City (which borrowed its title from the photographic collection by urban documentarist/crime photographer Weegee). Independent producer Herbert Leonard (The Adventures of Rin-Tin-Tin, Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers, Circus Boy) developed the idea as a half-hour series for Screen Gems, hiring writer Stirling Silliphant for the pilot script.
Last post – The words to that Theme Song– Like I said I lost my head , I’ll try/ will hold it down . I’m OK now .
My DRUG of choice is ; All day strong “Aleve 220 mg”
When I grew up, any self-respecting boy age 10 or older never went anywhere without a trusty pocket knife; not necessarily a Swiss army knife, just a three-bladed pocket knife. Now try to go anywhere with one. You’ll be arrested as a terrorist at the worst or at the least have it confiscated. Times used to be a lot simpler. I can’t imagine Calvin’s dad EVER letting him have a pocketknife, though.
watcha said,
“Well he better hurry up as the ground is about 2 seconds away!”
From Wikipedia:
“Gravity accelerates objects toward the center of the earth at 32.2 ft. per second per second. In other words, an object’s velocity will increase by 32.2 ft./s for each second the object falls until it reaches its terminal velocity, which you can think of as a kind of speed limit.Terminal velocity is reached when air friction equally opposes the force of gravity. Different objects will have different terminal velocities, depending on their shapes.”
I’d say Calvin is in ‘bad shape’ if watcha has calculated (guessed) correctly. He’d better activate the transmogrifier posthaste.
However, Susan001 said,
“He must be falling in slo-mo.”
Considering how long it has taken for Calvin to get from where he was when he started falling to where he is now, Susan might be on ‘the right track’ (if you follow my ‘train of thought’.
Nobody has mentioned the black background in panel 2. Could this be a dark foreboding of things to come? GASP! If this is a dream, as it appears to be, all bets are off. Who knows what will happen next? “The Shadow knows” (fiendish laugh follows).
