As for quotation marks & apostrophes, I prefer proper use. However any use of text talk is over-abuse.
A Sermon: How about the entire bible? You know, all those times where humans claimed that they were in control and God reminded them that although they had some power it was not nearly as great as they boasted.
Pharaoh and the plagues

I can’t quite view myself from this angle so I’ll leave it those with the proper viewpoint to report on its accuracy. Uncle V did have a knack for simplistic realism however.
“Man proposes, but God disposes” - attributed to Thomas a Kempis (quotation marks for quotes)
“The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.” Proverbs 16:33
jrbj,
God predetermines who are the non-elect, but they are free to make the choice they make concerning their final destiny. JohnnyDarko said it as briefly as possible.
Yukoner,
Your examples are excellent and well-known to most people, but don’t expect everybody to accept them even if they “get the idea”. Some people are incorrigible.
“There is no religion without love, and people may talk as much as they like about their religion, but if it does not teach them to be good and kind… it is all a sham.” – Anna Sewell
“Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.” – Steven Weinberg.
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” – Epicuris
I love your Christ. I do not love your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.” – M.K. Gandhi
“Going to church doesn’t make one a Christian any more than going to a garage makes one a car.” – unknown
Watterson’s statement about this strip in the 10th Anniversary book - “The illusion of control.” Interesting that so many people used those exact same words here…
Among other things, I learned that someone who had the last word didn’t let it be the last word. Friends don’t let friends abuse last word privilege.
I also learned that ‘alleged’ Quotation Mark Addiction can cause severe annoyance to ‘one person at large’.
God is both able and willing. The final chapter hasn’t been written yet.
Without free will there would be no evil. Would you rather have everyone be robots or automatons?
Gandhi was also unlike Christ.
It would be good for people to heed their own admonitions.
LOL! PG2 - Your posts become a lot funnier once one realizes that how seriously you take yourself! What a hoot! And I note that you’ve even cut back to single quotation marks! (Considered a ‘light’ alternative for QMA sufferers!) Just remember that the first step in dealing with addiction is admitting you have a problem! Keep up the good work buddy!
Whoo! Whoo! There’s no need to wonder. It’s the person at large with last word addiction…but who really gives a hoot?
It doesn’t even do any good when I indicate why I’m using quotation marks. “Don’t confuse me with the facts (or reasons); my mind is made up.”
Single quotation marks have their place as you ‘lightly’ observed.
You don’t like quotation marks because they acknowledge the use of someone else’s material. I have enough unique material. I don’t need to avoid quotation marks, and by (an argument from) silence claim undue credit.
PG2 - Once again, you have sadly missed the point. I have no issue with quotation marks but I do find it annoying to have to sift past 5-10 posts per day of you randomly regurgitating the thoughts of others. Don’t fear charges of undue credit. There is little danger of you ever saying anything that anyone else would want to take credit for. As for last word addiction, I would gladly suffer from it if it means that we have heard the last of you for any given day. Ciao!
What point is there to miss? You don’t have a point.
Appreciating and perpetuating the thoughts of others is hardly ‘regurgitating’, and certainly not random.
Most of what you say is regurgitation of your own incessant criticisms and complaints ad nauseum. It’s anything but edifying to me or anyone else.
If you want the last word again, just make sure it isn’t something outlandish and preposterous as it usually is.
