oh, so close. you know 8” of rain could wash away the school. there’s still hope. i’ve always liked the fact that you’re no quitter, calvin…….and neither are you hobbes. can’t forget ol’ hobbes. might get attacked coming in from the rain.
When I was in high school I got the idea that if the school building were to be washed away by a flood, they would go find the building and hold classes any way.
Now a days they close at the drop of a flake.
Right now in SW Missouri, we’re happy to be getting rain that will help speed up the melting off of the snow. The adults that is; the kids may feel differently!
For the last 3 weeks, it’s been colder than normal in southeast VA, but dry. So, no snow. Sunday, the moisture arrives, but will be warm enough that we’ll get 1-2” of rain.
So, I feel for ya Calvin.
@Saucy1121 - Don’t jinx it!! I also live in southeast VA; it’s been way too cold but last thing the drivers around here need is precipitation. They crash into each other enough as it is.
Here in central Kansas a few days ago we had a deep freeze and schools here stayed open. A very few had to close water pipes broke at couple of schools. Then yesterday on a highway near of caios(sp) broke loose bridges formed an icy patch several vehicles went out of control damaged done. Caugth a lot of drivers by surprise.
One big public school here rarely cancels classes.
Who knew you had to be a little anal-retentive when asking for favors? (Please Lord, give me 8’ of snow, with a 20-25〫air temperature and 86% humidity. And, while you’re at it. if it wouldn’t be TOO much trouble, a package of double-stuff Oreo’s with a BIG mug of hot chocolate would help me out, too…)

“At least, Calvin, you aren’t still on the roof!”
If Calvin were still (not moving) on the roof, he’d be less likely to fall off.
If Calvin were still (quiet) on the roof, he’d be less likely to be found.
If Calvin were still (yet) on the roof, he might get shingles.
“C’mon snow! snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow!”
“But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.”
Matthew 6:7
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
James 5:16b
Lewreader:
I came up with the same thought. I love all those movies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly etc. That’s why I took dance class and later singing class as a kid so I could dance and sing in movies like they did. Unfortunately I was born in the 60’s so that wasn’t a reality.
Just singing in the rain just singing in the rain what a glorious feeling I’m happy again…

“Though with patience he stands waiting,
With exactness grinds he all.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
It might seem like a tough grind, but have patience; God does.
Susan001:
When it rains here in winter it freezes and all the trees are covered in a layer of ice. I think it’s very pretty. The only tough part is if you get too much it can weigh down the power lines and they snap. We have a gas stove, jugs of water, kerosene heater, and candles at the ready. If I need to go out I salt the steps, wait for the plow to go by, put on my shoe cleats, and put the defroster on the car windows and finish getting ready.
Living in the, “North Country”, school only gets delayed in a heavy snow day or you may get out early from school. The only time school is called off is on a freezing rain day when there’s no power.
At my age, we had NO snow days when I was small. We had to trudge though it no matter what, and they didn’t penalize us for being late. It was expected! Good ole ‘Mountaineer Country, W.Va.
