After hearing Calvinâs dadâs explanation, now I understand why ATMs always say, âPress Here.â(Sorry, DogsniffâŠâŠ.. Hope I didnât steal your line for todayâŠâŠ.)
The other day upon the stair,I met a man who wasnât there. He wasnât there again today.Oh, how I wish that he would go away.-Toured the set of Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space Nine (friend worked in art dept), got to sit in Janewayâs captain chair, got to go up to the barâŠthe doors whish open by someone pulling a rope or chain from the other side, just like a commenter suspected.-High tech, huh?
Itâs funny (Maybe not funny, but tragic. Thereâs a fine line sometimes. A tragi-comedy perhaps. IDK) how a simple cartoon can evoke politics out of some people. Itâs a cartoon people! If you want politics, make your comments on the op-ed page of your local newspaper where only other political geeks will read it and respond. Maybe. Please leave Calvin and his dad out of the political arena and instead use them as a point where we can all be in agreement for once.
Dadâs ATM scenario may be our future. The USPS lets us print our own postage. Maybe the US Govt will make us print our own money. Or script, or whatever. Think of the savings. No minting cost, no armored trucks, no bank vaults, etc. Or maybe it will be all âin the cards.â
I remember being with my Dad at my uncles service station when a customer came in and paid for his gas with a credit card. I asked my dad why he didnât get one of those, so he could get free gas. His explation was not quite as much fun, he explained the finacial facts of life to me.
@caseyatbat: You wrote, âHow can a kid (Calvin) so sharp be so dumb?âCalvin is patterned after Linus from Peanuts in this respect. When Linus was younger, sometimes he would be extremely naive, and other times he would be highly precocious, using big words and complex sentences.Interestingly, research into highly gifted children has found that many of them experience âuneven development,â meaning that they can be years ahead of their age in some areas but not in others. At my library you check out books electronically, and at the end it asks if you want a receipt if you say yes a receipt comes out. I used to think a mouse lived inside and printed out the receipt.
From what I read here,I guess I was the only 5 year old that believed my older brother, when he told me to look under the bed. Before going to sleep every night.
