You know, Calvin, God gave you two ears but only one mouth. That’s His way of telling you that listening is twice as important as talking, and I’ll bet that if you talked less and listened more, you might actually learn something!

Miss. Wormwood either might not be a good teacher…or Calvin’s not a good learner.

A few years ago I read that when examinations were first introduced, the idea was not to test how well the students had learned, but rather how well the teachers had taught. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the source.

Some things are a secret, like the prescription of a fine cake or wine, such things are kept in families and only given to next generation!

I was a teacher, too. And your bumper sticker response to Aaron cracked me up! Idealistic nonsense. I had 40-50 junior high students per class and its impossible to tune into all their frequencies all at once even for a minute.

It would take an alien teacher to blast through the amount of self-absorption Calvin has. Fortunately his Hobbes keeps him on the right path.

typical – blame the teacher if a student doesn’t learn. It’s a shared responsibility. The judgement is relatively easy – look at all the rest of the kids – if they are learning successfully, the teacher has done his/her job. No doubt Calvin could use a little extra therapy – but no teacher can deal with one student while neglecting the rest of the class.

@CalvinLet’s face it… Miss. Wormwood is just one of those common stamp-pressed, rank and file teachers that can’t inspire those under her tutelage to learn.A Lousy Teacher uses Intimidation tactics (bordering on bullying) to drill his/her lessons into the students. Great Teachers earn the trust, respect, love and Inspire their pupils to learn… but they the teachers, in turn also learn from their pupils too.

I had an Algebra 301 teacher that I regularly met with after class to ask for a different explanation of a topic. All she would do is read the book to me. She retired the next year and I managed to talk my counselor into letting me repeat the class even though I had gotten a passing grade. It went better the second time.

Fortunately, Most of my teachers have been lovely and helpful but of course there has been a few ‘bad apples’ who I don’t even want to remember.

As much as I hated school… I started crying on the day I left.

Now I’m at College… The teachers are still lovely and helpful.
