A person would have to be a lunatic to pay for Calvin.

Yeah, only a real mother would take on the task of ripping you to shreds personally, herself.

I threatened to run away from home once. My father helped me pack and offered me $20 “just in case.” As I as about to walk out the door, he reminded me of Thomas Wolfe’s famous saying, “You can’t go home again.” I wasn’t a very bright child, but I wasn’t stupid. I stayed home.

This said something else once.

“Hmph! A good mother would have bought me a comic book and made me feel better instead of shunning me like you.”

“Kid, anyone but a good mother would’ve left you to the wolves long ago.”

“Yeah, right. Let’s see your training certificate.”

I haven’t been a kid in over half a century, but I cannot even imagine asking my still living mother to buy me something I wanted.

Cal, If I had walked around my house like that, my parents would have given me a reason to be in a bad mood. So count yourself fortunate.

“Wrong question. You should ask how much they paid us to take you. It wasn’t enough."
