I am deeply disappointed in Hobbes — a big fan of smooches and hugs — for not speaking up for Susie.

Calvin should be feeling very lonely about now…. I know I would.

Susie will be back with a club…one to strike Calvin with.

You’ll become GROSS’s repeated victim for years to come, Miss Derkins.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Susie, start your own club, kidnap Hobbes and Calvin will be begging to join your club.

Calvin was this close from getting clubbed!

Calvin doesn’t need a secret club to push the right buttons.

Mission accomplished. The hats worked.

In the battle of he sexes, I was a conscientious objector.

I believe that is my favorite Hobbs expression in the last panel. Big smooch for him!

Susie will make him regret this, in about 10 years time.

He may be the meanest little kid you know, but just wait, adults can be WAY more mean. And you don’t need to look far to find one.

They are a perfect match. Our stubbornness got us through all troubles till RIP. Sometime, c. 1960, we had some kind of an argument just outside of my HS Homeroom and she took off upstairs to hers. I didn’t know what hit me and flew up 3-stairs at a time. I met her line of defense-backers, broke through and apologized. From then on things were fine till 2017, RIP. Oh yes, my homeroom teacher was asked by a man, “What’s that all about?” Her reply, “They’re in love.”

In my secret club, we welcome the girls …

… if they adhere to our strict dress code (for girls).

Hobbs is only in it for the cool hats!

Well, Calvin, to quote George W. Bush; “Mission Accomplished!”

That worked!

There is a bit of physical reality here that is puzzling, as evidenced by panels 1 and 4. In panel 1, in the presence of Susie, Calvin is whispering to Hobbes, who happens to be at eye level. In panel 4, he is looking up at a 6 foot Hobbes; who unless exists as a Captain Marvel-like persona; would indicate he is looking up at empty space. (and yeh, I know, it’s a comic).

And this is why Suzie has every reason to hate that kid. But she doesn’t. Calvin doesn’t deserve Suzie as a friend.

I still say Suzie needs her own personal Taser. Just because.

I love how this manages to thoroughly confuse us as to the place of morality in the grand scheme of things. One thing’s for sure: Cal’s a real human being (and Hobbes loves him anyway). PS: I hope one day we have a comic strip of this quality with a girl protagonist.

Girls are best kept away especially on keeping secrets!
