    After a week on a diet, my wife burst into tears when the scales went the wrong way. It took a few months for the scales to go the right way, so luckily she stuck to the diet and not the results of the scales.

    @ HappyChappy,

    If you are very close to your ideal weight and start exercising, you will replace the fat with muscle… which weighs more than fat. This will cause your weight to go up, even though you become thinner.

    This might be the phenomenon that your wife experienced.

    I didn’t have a scale for years because I was afraid of being a “slave” to the numbers. We’ve had one for about 4 months now, and I find myself weighing in every day. It does help me realize when I’m eating too much junk though.

    Ha ha, made me laugh did that.

    Maizing……Know all about that stuff but as I said it was a diet not an exercise program. Eventually it paid off but the scales are not always a good indicator when used too often.
