Always a good idea to get rid of stuff! Let’s hope it’s not the brain that’s hardly been used…
Good morning Cathy friends – wish you all a happy day!

I have a hard time getting my aunt who raised me out of my brain, but at least she had good advice.
Bonjour lightenup, como tallez vous? Good morning everyone, have a great day!

The keep pile is bigger than the out pile. That’s not how it works. And the “mom” you hear is fully engrained in your genes. Makes my life seem 101% right every day.
Morning fellow Cathyites. Off to sleep . . .

I’ve heard that a lot of people who lived through the Depression / World War II era have that mentality of “don’t waste — save everything that could possibly be useful!” That’s probably where Cathy’s mom gets it from, and she ingrained it in Cathy.Good morning Bronzepony, shygirl, Aaron, frightenup, Susan, and ncalifgirl, and hello to Billy, hendelca, mollie, Mom, legaleagle and other members of the Cathy Clan yet to come. molly mcgree (from yesterday) — sorry about the health issues in your family. Keep us posted!

frightenup, your comment about getting past greetings and thank-yous in foreign languages brought a smile to my face. Before we left for a 4-year assignment in Germany, I practiced and learned many German phrases. The second day we were there I took my daughter to a local toy store, prepared to ask the owner if we could buy the trike in the window. He understood everything I said, but then started chatting in German, and I understood none of what he said! I was embarrassed but at least my daughter rode a new trike back to the house! Bon voyage, and don’t be surprised that most folks speak English, although they shouldn’t be expected to!

My bathroom cabinets are stuffed with products that are hard to part with,so I can relate to our friend Cathy. Every week I try to purge something on garbage day.

If your mother tells you to save things you don’t need, that’s not good advice. I have a very small apartment, so I can’t afford the space to save lots of unnecessary stuff (or buy it in the first place, for that matter).

I took a second look at this. I suspect Cathy’s mom is NOT a hoarder and probably even keeps a neat and tidy house. That “mom voice” should be looked at by a medical professional. :-D

I’m guessing Cathy throws away 3 of something and then takes 2 back. No, I agree with Aaron too that Cathy’s mom can’t support that type of lunacy.
Aaron, you blockhead!
:-D

I was brought up in a house where bits of string, rubber bands, brown paper and all sorts of things were kept “just in case” – just in case you wanted to wrap a parcel in crumpled brown paper, tied up with too-short bits of string, possibly!
But I have to admit that my house is a bit like that, too. It does come in handy at times, though, when you have a very small parcel to wrap, or a tiny book to cover.

Cathy’s attitude regarding “Out! Out! Out! . . . Simplify! Simplify! Simplify! . . . Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye!” was how I managed to (mostly) conquer my office clutter problem this summer. Thankfully my mother doesn’t live in my head or it probably never would have even gotten started — let alone practically done. By this time next year, I’m going to have the rest of it completely whipped!!!!! That way, if Santa should just happen to bring me an e-reader this year for Christmas, I’ll actually have time to use it and not feel guilty about playing with my new “toy” as opposed to doing what I should really be doing . . . and that’s getting the clutter cleaned up instead!!!!!
;-)

@ FrankenAaron – I LUV your name!! Hee hee ! And I’m terribly sorry for this morning when you and I must have posted around the same time! :-)@ scaredycatsarge – So true! Although my mom was born in the Depression (so probably doesn’t remember much), I’m guessing she was brought up that way, saving everything that could be useful. Especially since she grew up on a small farm in a small town where they had to “make do” instead of buy.@ nannygram – Great story!! Sometimes I get mistaken for a Spaniard when we are there because I can say short phrases that sound pretty good. Pretty embarrassing when I give them blank looks after that. :-)Good to see you tonight, GretchensMom and the rest of the Cathy clan!! Have a great night, everyone!

AACK—yet another major [eye-roll].
How DOES this strip do it, time after time?
That reminds me—we haven’t seen a good “AACK” in this comic for quite a while, have we?
Love the Halloween names, everyone. Fun stuff.
