Make up is an artistic endeavor best appreciated indoors or at least out of the sun. Know your venue and adjust.

I was in an upscale department store where a saleslady excitedly showed me the newest arrival. It was a tiny jar of cream that cost over $100. It was supposed to be layered with the sunscreen and moisturizer and base layers but before the makeup and finishing layers and it was designed to “help hide minor imperfections.” I was so appalled, I couldn’t even say a word other than “no, thanks.”
I wear sunscreen and nothing else unless I am going somewhere special, in which case I dab a little loose powder over my nose and chin where it is a bit shiny.
My sister, who lives in another state, called me one day several years ago and asked me if I wore face makeup. I said funny you ask, I was putting some on the other day when it suddenly occurred to me I had no idea why, so I decided to stop. She said she asked because the exact same thing just happened to her.

I have nice skin for my age and I honestly think it’s from wearing so little make up. I never wore foundation which I think is bad for the skin. I do wear lipstick, eye make up and beyond that sun screen in summer and a general moisturizer. And that’s it. Oh, information I only learned a few years ago. I have very thin eyebrows and didn’t know why. I take thyroid and found out that having sparse eyebrows is a sign of a low thyroid. So if any of you have always wondered about your eyebrows, I recommend having yourself checked for hypothyroidism.

It’s a vicious cycle, isn’t it, Cathy? Simple would seem to be best here, but knowing our favorite nut-job … [smile]

My wife puts on makeup before going out every time – spends considerable time and ends up looking just as beautiful as she did before she started. Never could figure out why she bothered. Me, I do use lip balm and put an aloe based cream on my face before bed otherwise I wake up with chapped lips and dry skin on my face. Oh, and lots of sun screen before I go outside during the day.
lindz.coop – the only way to bear temperatures and humidity like yesterday is work outside for 20-30 minutes and then retire to the basement until you cool down. Spend most of my time in the basement yesterday.

Who can keep that makeup on for more than 5 minutes in THIS hot spell we are blessed with? It melts off!

I don’t try to wear makeup…I haven’t since I was a teenager…a little eyebrow pencil, shadow, pink on the cheeks and lightener under the eyes and I’m good to go.
