Well that does happen when your head gasket goes out, but I’m not sure the Abbott and Costello mask would help with that diagnostic.

Bleeb is just like, okay, let’s get going, the party is on and we’re sitting here!

Oh, BTW, mechanics take advantage of anybody if they are so inclined.

To find a really good mechanic who won’t tell you something is wrong with the car, when it isn’t, is priceless. I have one like that.

I have learned the hard way to stay away from most dealerships as they gouge customers. My local mechanic can do most of the work needed at a reasonable price.

I usually know what is wrong with my truck before I take it to the shop but about every other year, they ‘find’ something that need repair or replacement. I make them show me what they are talking about. I want to see the before and after, if at all possible. I know, new rings have to be seen during or not at all.

With all the computer stuff in cars I was at a disadvantage a long time ago. My only defense is to look like a confused, raggedy, broke ass old man. Oh, wait…

That is true. I took my car to a shop because my battery was obviously bad. The mechanic hooks it up to a rather impressive looking contraption, and then very dramatically tells me that my electrical system is totally shot because the machine “should have been lit up, and showing all sorts information.” I looked at the machine, then I looked at him, smiled demurely, and said “Wouldn’t it work better, if you turned it on?” The switch was clearly in the off position! He glared at me, and simply unhooked my car, I got in, and went to another shop, said “I need a battery,” paid, and drove off.

And what’s the message in that Deb still got some of the most dreaded news you can get from a mechanic?
