and way too many athletes say “yes” when asked if they would cheat and take illegal substances to become champions even though their lives might be cut short by doing so. there has to be a balance between being a champion athlete and the price you pay to become an athlete. the win at all costs (or any cost) attitude leads to terrible abuses of people’s health. Ben made the right choice for Ben, even if the team decides to get rid of him because he made it. More players need to recognize the fact that “playing hurt” makes the risk of “hurt worse”, or “hurt again”, or “permanent injury” even greater.
