@rvernon—You are infuriating. I am with Mr. Smith. Do you really think all of those stories about the “dead” voting in Chicago & other areas for decades are made up. These so called disenfranchised seem to have no problem getting to places & having ID to sign up for entitlements. States that have enacted the new rules are bending over backwards to make sure that anyone who wants a proper voting ID can get one, & at no cost to anyone legally entitled to one.
I’m with RVernon. If you think there’s a problem with voter fraud and if you insist every voter have a photo id, then the means to get that photo id must come to every person who has no transportation. Otherwise it’s voter fraud on the part of the people in power.
@Charles Smith, @CFinFL: You do realize that the photo ID (driver’s license or equivalent) requirement won’t actually do anything to reduce vote fraud, as the ID check only verifies that the person who appeared at the polling place is the person who registered at some point in the past. Big deal. I suspect that people coming to the poll and claiming to be somebody else is a pretty rare event. If you are serious about keeping non-legitimate “voters” from voting, then you need to go back and re-confirm the eligibility of EVERYONE whose name appears on the registration list. And while doing that, you could issue a photo ID to be used FOR VOTING ONLY..The fact that not one state has proposed such an approach to verifying eligibility tells me this is at best theater and at worst an attempt to disenfranchise people who are legally eligible to vote but whom the party in power does not wish to see voting.
I tried to explain this to a friend who is for the id card voter thing. I told her that an id card is voluntary and costs money whereas a SS card is mandatory and is free. Forcing people to obtain a voluntary card is one step away from charging a fee at the polling stations.Voting is a right we all have as citizens so it needs to remain free and open without a requirement for VOLUNTARY cards.
So try driving without a license. Heck, you have to produce ID just to enter a public school these days. But the most important public function we can exercise, people want to keep open to all manner of impropriety. Is is really a coincidence that all those objecting to voter ID laws are Democrats whose party would benefit most from voter fraud!?
rvernon—-Would you care to show a link from any state with the new law that actually shows that part of the law that a birth certificate is the only form of proof that will accepted. Many people are not born in hospitals. A good many in the old days were born at home. Are you telling me that they would be rejected for no certificate? I highly doubt it. If someone is not up on the news, they are uninformed & shouldn’t be voting. How do they know where to vote? I guess if they don’t have transportation to get an ID, they don’t have it to go vote either, unless they do it by mail. I & others can refute any argument you come up with.
You just need to see it from the Grand Ole Perverts’ perspective: Poor people, or, “those people,” as Romney calls them, shouldn’t be allowed to vote! At least, according to Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, PA who characterized them by quoting Mitt Romney, “47 percent of the people are living off the public dole, living off their neighbors’ hard work, and we have a lot of people out there that are too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need. If individuals are too lazy, the state can’t fix that.”
Who are you lazy people that Mitt Romney and the rest of the Grand Ole Perverts hate? Let’s break down the 47% of Americans that Republicans hate:
About half don’t earn enough money for a household of their size to owe income tax. About 22 percent get tax breaks for senior citizens that offset their income.About 15 percent get tax breaks for the working poor or low-income parents.Almost 3 percent get tax breaks for college tuition or other education expenses.about 4,000 households earning more than $1 million a year.
So, the Grand Ole Perverts hate poor people, working poor, senior citizens, and millionaires using loopholes. Wait, back up. Don’t hate the millionaires, they’re the job creators, it’s only fair that they can get away without paying taxes. And don’t mention hating the senior citizens, they’re easily confused and cranky when riled.

If we vote like we drive, well, all is explained, is it not?
