Frazz by Jef Mallett for September 30, 2012
Transcript:
Caulfield: I just delivered a scathing review of Mrs. Olsen's rendition of "runaway ralph." Principal: How'd that go over? Caulfield: Not well. You'd think everybody would be more interested in what I don't like. Mr. Spaetzle: Caulfield: Do you know why critics have Pulitzer prizes? So people will talk to them. Caulfield: I could point out all he did there was repurposed the world's most offensive joke. Frazz; The genius of it it, now you won't.

I dislike reading people that are negative about everything, so personally, I wouldn’t even read A. B would be bad, too, but at least he would be amusing in his optimism. It would be a fun read, and then I’d go out and look for a real review.
On another note, what’s the world most offensive joke? Hadn’t heard that one before. Probably don’t wanna hear it, either.

Yeah, I’m lost here too. I don’t know what the “original joke” is, either. But I think the principal makes an interesting point.

For those who don’t get the joke: Why do women have (insert your favorite female anotomical feature here)? So men will talk to them.

I don’t care if a critic likes or hates a book or movie, as long as the critic tells me WHY. Gene Siskel was one of the great critics, but he and I always disagreed on a specific genre of stupid comedy: he despised them and I loved them. His reviews of said movies were still useful to me, as I could recognize that the reason he disliked the film was the very reason I knew I’d love it.

I still don’t understand the last panel. What is the world’s most offensive joke doing in a Frazz comic??

USAFMSGT: I don’t know about him, but my account with a similar name got hacked..bigpuma: The awarding of a Pulitzer is, by its very nature, criticism. Positive rather than negative, but criticism none the less.

I did some music criticism back in the day: Frankly if I didn’t like something I just wouldn’t review it. There are lots and lots of people int he world who will tell you in great length why something sucks… I wanted to let people about things (I felt) didn’t suck and why.

I can’t believe that Caulfield would know that joke anyway…. and btw, Runaway Ralph is a book by Beverly Cleary, about a mouse. Someone mentioned Stuart Little. Totally different mouse. Ralph S. Mouse is way cool.
