Unfortunately, responsible women do have the tendency of blaming themselves for just about everything.

She knows they are adults but she is smart enough to know it will end badly. I don’t know why some of us feel guilty for things we didn’t intend and only peripherally cause, but those people who go against conventional wisdom and care when they can justify not caring are definitely the people I understand (and like) best!

If it ends badly, the friend will blame Elly.

So Elly you’re not allowed to introduce people to each other because the outcome might be a bad one? Then you can’t introduce friends to each other either because they might not get along. Or like what happened to me once, they liked each other so much they became best friends and left me out. Oh well, such is life.

    Happy birthday Wildmustang!

The only possible positive outcome of this story will be that Elly has a chance of getting this man-chasing loser out of her life. If John had one male friend who had half the issues that Connie has, all the women readers would be urging Ellie to dump him.

The fact that she was so close to Connie for so long suggests that there was a deep-set problem, either in her on in the person who drew her.

    I don’t know

I guess since I used to be like Connie (before therapy), I could see and feel the experience Lynn is portraying in this strip. I saw myself in it way back when this story line first appeared, looked at my behaviour and decided maybe I needed help…….

FBOFW was a blessing back then and I can look back on what I’ve achieved since then and know I grew up, just like Connie will eventually

Um, I thought the whole point of Elly’s ruminations was their irrationality. We all behave emotionally where love and friendship are concerned, whether it make sense or not. Elly is just being human. That’s why I enjoy FBOW.

What’s she worried about? Here’s her single friend finally getting hooked up for new years and with a pretty-much sure thing. Why does Elly want her friend to live like a celibate nun? Just to satisfy her own doubts about whether marriage is better than that awful single life? Let the girl have a little fun.

Dmajor, it isn’t about “hooking up”, it’s about Connie’s obsession with Phil. As Howtheduck pointed out, she’s marriage minded and he isn’t. That does not bode well.

Please lightenup on Elly, she is a nice person, a good wife and mother. Her childeren turned out beautifully. Elly is just a person, like we all are. We make mistakes, and we laugh and love. I love the whole family………..

they are adults and what they decide to do is really none of elly’s business. this arc reveals more about elly’s flaws than connie or phil.

the pathways of the heart are unplanned, complicated and tangled. mistakes are made more often than not. life is too short to spend it regretfully staring in a mirror.

This happened to me once about 25 years or so ago … except that it was my boyfriend and my favorite cousin that I loved like a sister that did that to me! Needless to say, she was no longer my favorite cousin and I wasn’t on speaking terms with her for a really long time afterwards. The romance didn’t last long, of course, and I rejoiced when she dumped him to go back to an old boyfriend that she’s now married to. As for my ex, he tried to come crawling back to me but, of course, I wouldn’t take him back. I moved on and have been married to a wonderful man for 21 years now. While I’ve forgiven my cousin for her back-stabbing back then, I still haven’t forgotten about it and our relationship has never been the same since that happened when we were teenagers.

Connie is a cheap hussy, and Elly warned her about Phil, not just once, so this time may be the ONLY time, Elly isn’t to blame here.
