Caveman: Yes, I suppose instigating fights between people then stealing their food during the chaos could be considered a survival skill... And thus began the legal profession
@JohnnyDiego -Thatâs why itâs useless to become part of a class action suit. But youâd better believe the lawyers made plenty of $$$ in the process. Win or lose, they always get paid.
Ih my experience as a surprised member of the âclassâ in a few class-action suits, I have come to believe that the law firmâs actual customer is not the people who were cheated, exposed to dangerous products, or whatever, but in fact the companies that did the deed. In return for a fee that, while hefty, is still pennies on the dollar compared to the companyâs actual liability, the law firm gets the people who were wronged to accept pennies on the dollar, thus immunizing the company against its true liability. Win-win for the law firm and the company; only the victimsâwho, of course, must settle for the class-action payment or spend (by their standards) a fortune to fight bring an individual suitâlose.
I just got a check for $70 as compensation in a class action suit against AT&T. Something about slow Internet connections. I guess the lawyers made out like bandits on that one.
Years ago, my friends agreed to a âfriendlyâ divorce, share and share their assets, no fuss, no muss. Then she was advised to get a lawyer. Soon they both had lawyers. Keeping it simple, when they were done, they had a divorce, and the lawyers walked off with over 70% of their joint assets. so the âtoonâs about right?

Iâve always believed that in all phylogeny there is no precedent for the ontogeny of a lawyer. Guess I was wrong. Thanks, Mr. Miller.

Hate lawyers, butâŠwhen Iâve needed one and was able to find an honest one, they have been invaluable! They do good work when they care.

The problem, of course, is because lawyers arenât compensated based on performance. You win, you get paid. You donât, you donât.

Unfortunately, it is 99% of the lawyers that give the rest of us a bad reputation.
