That is the longest run ever. You never want a friend’s kid injured on your watch.

How do we find this original story, strip by strip? There isn’t a Phil and Connie story line created.

I predict mom will be overcome with guilt and will (for a little while anyway) become anal and overprotective to try to assuage her guilt……

Michael’s just being a normal kid. He’s just as concerned for Lawrence as he is for his bike, but they’re equal in his mind. As he gets older he’ll learn that things can be replaced but people can’t. I hope Lawrence is ok but if Connie blames Elly she oughtta be smacked.

just like one of my sons, i repeatedly told him never to ride down a hill near out apartment and never borrow someone elses’ bicycle, well he did both and we wound up taking him to the ER

road rash on his face and 2 missing teeth, (we never did find 1 of them)

I wonder if Lynn will change the way this story line goes this time around? She may not like how the old line comes across. She’ll get lots of mail, I’m sure, if she leaves it the old way. It won’t go down well with her readers.

I’ve been a dog owner for way too long. When Mike said Lawrence had an “accident,” I thought he was using the euphemism we use when the dog “goes” in the house!

I was thinking the same thing as Susan. They didn’t have cell phones then, and the only time Connie called was to complain about Phil. Lawrence isn’t a priority at all. She can pay for hotel rooms, but let’s see if she replaces the bike.

How did the old storyline go Summerdog? I don’t remember.

I do remember when I was teenager and had a bicycle with another friend who rode his bicycle, too. While we had the rain constantly all day, we raced up the hill and then, we went down on the wet road. Another friend made it after he passed thru the intersection with the traffic lights, but I didn’t. I couldn’t squeeze the brake handlers enough to stop while I rode on my bike very fast. I decided to skid down horizontally on wet lawn that was only way I could do with my own safety than hit at the car or whatever. I used my own judgement for my safety quickly. Whew! but I was OK anyway!

Boy, poor Lawrence! I hope it would not be too serious injury.

I don’t remember the old story line and made my comment based on what some of the others here have said about the old strip line, the past few days. And Duckie’s nice links.

I do know that Connie does not drop everything and race home (as you or I would) when she hears about her son. That would make some readers mad that Connie showed up late.

Poor Elly! You know she feels terrible, like it was her fault. I agree that Michael is worried about both his friend and his bike. And is in shock, so you think of strange things. But he did run and tell Mom, that’s the important thing.

Kids and bikes. This is why all those safety groups put them in the “dangerous toy” category. Yes, they are, but what would our lives be like with no bikes, skates, sleds etc? I cna tell you- kids would just invent soemthing more dangerous and without brakes to make up for it.

I hope he’s OK. If it was just scrapes, I could see Connie not coming back right off, but if it’s an ER trip, that means you drive home right away. Well, as soon as you know about it. That’s funny, I DO remember the world before cell phones, when you could be away from your hotel phone for hours and things happened all the time without us knowing right off.

Gotta be somebody’s fault – surprised it’s not Elly’s as it usually is. With all this “bad mom” garbage, it’s amazing that the kids all turned out pretty good from what I remember of the end of the strip.

When it’s Elly’s fault, we’ll all let you know.

Just because she’s usually always at fault doesn’t make people who recognize it deranged. More like then ones who always side with her to ease their own consciences come off as deranged.

Thanx mrs – I guess I needed you to inform me – I wasn’t aware that I was easing my own conscience – particularly as I didn’t have any children. I simply saved hundreds of them from parental abuse and neglect of all sorts as a child protection worker for many years. And – what Elly is doing or has done in any of these strips doesn’t constitute any such thing.
