I think that the woman of the first part should be locked in her car with the windows rolled up. And I think Ma is returning the serve low and hard in her own rapier-quick way. Sort of an assisted living “F-U!”People who treat helpless creatures with such disregard should freeze in Round three of the ninth and innermost circle of Dante’s hell. (There is a murder case in district court here where a daycare operator left nine small children and babies alone while she went shopping. A skillet on the stove caught fire and four children died. I so wanted to be on that jury!)
Ma’s cart has a little sign that says “Standing in cart is NOT very smart.”Did any store actually use that?It sounds kinda familiar.
Meanwhile…. she’s buying stuff that I’m sure Julie grouped for a reason….canned beans, “Scatt” brand toilet tissue, and a detergent called “Hide” with extra bleach. Ewww.And some super soft biscuits… if those are there for the only reason I can think of….I need some brain bleach, stat!
It must be cold so the dog will be ok for a while. Here in Fl a lot of people leave the cars running with the air on . Very few parking lots have trees. That’s a shame to see acres of oaks cleared for shopping strips that for years go un used. But that’s progress I guess.
Don’t worry about the heat. By the time Ma argues over expired coupons and coupons for other stores, fishes all the pennies out of the bottom of her purse, sends the bag boy back to replace the toilet paper because the plastic package has a small tear, and empties all the filled bags to make sure she remembered to buy the generic Preparation-H, the dog will have either died of old age or figured out how to hotwire the car and drove himself home.
Dumb and Dumber… ! ! !.No Find-It today…. again…. 3 days in a row now…. (The Find-It could be 007)
Again the big moon background replacing all the detail… (The detail could be a police car outside with flashing lights on and a policeman looking into a car…. with a crowd forming…. ).What gives…. ? ? ?
You weren’t thinking about your dog while you were piling up your buggy lady! I’ll watch the cart while you run out and roll down the windows!……A police dog in my area died because the police officer went to a 2nd job and left the dog in the car for hours with the windows all the way up.
I tend to think the dog is perfectly safe (if there is a dog) because both women have on heavy coats. A dog would be fine in a car even with the windows rolled up in the late fall and winter where Crustwood is for the length of time it would take to shop for a few items. This would be a sad thing if it were Summer, of course. But my take for today and the way the women are dressed is that the woman is trying to scam Ma into being allowed to cut as she either sees or knows from prior experience how Ma will take here “sweet ’ole time” digging out the 10 cent coupon she has in the bottom of her purse stuck to some old gum and lint, and then when the cashier finds it is expired, Ma will grimace and hesitate while she thinks if she should buy the item or have it removed from the baggage. Next she would hem-and-haw while searching for some more pennies at the bottom of her purse (again, gummy, and linty) as she carefully tries to count out the exact change for 10 minutes or so.
There was a case near here maybe 10 years ago…a woman left her 2 and 4 year-old sons in her locked van for EIGHT HOURS outside her house.
Don’t know whether she put them in to go someplace or had returned…but supposedly, she’d taken several times the dose of her prescription pain medication, and drunk two bottles of wine. Her husband, who found the boys when he got home from work, said they’d been fighting over her drinking.(So he leaves the kids with her, I have to ask?)
The younger boy died, strapped in a car seat. The 4-yr-old took refuge on the front seat floor and survived. The mother got 7 years. She’s probably out now.
I remember, maybe ten years ago, maybe not that long, two good ol’ boys went spelunking and left two babies in a pick up while they were in the cave for several hours. I understand they both were crying when they were trying to revive the babies without result. I wonder if they cry when their respective cell mates get romantic with them?
I have neighbor kids who often hang out in my front yard and some do not live on my block, so there may be a “daycare” arrangement that is undeclared (kids are 4-7yo). I watch them and interact as much as possible when they come to my yard (and watch them very carefully when they go in the back yard with my pool- often soaking feet). I’m not sure about the family who “watch them” normally. I baked cupcakes for Halloween at the kids request with my own buttercream icing and a little homemade berry jam. I got a whole new bunch of drawings for my frig in response ;-D

Lady, leave that stupid cart, and go open the windows for your dog!

Don’t worry, she’s lying about having her dog on the car. It’s actually just her cat.

Yeah, hard to know who’s being more despicable here….Cruella the dog killer, or Ma the ever-sympathetic.
Of course, Ma’s answer is right for all he wrong reasons.
Mine would have been more like what Marg said…. basically, NO, you don’t have time to buy stuff!

And no Find-It again??C’mon Julie… please.
Magnified, there is some funny stuff, though.

Both women have on heavy coats. It is not hot weather. There is no real dog. This is a comic strip.

After verbally jousting with schmuk Burl all these years that sneaky lady isn’t much of a challenge for Ma.

Out here in New Mexico this summer, we had someone leave their 2-year old nephew in a car and forgot. The poor child died.
