Caulfield: Imagine the panic if Frazz and Mr. Burke walked through the comb district. Miss Plainwell: I'm trying to imagine a city with a comb district.

Go read some Uncle Remus, Little Black Sambo, and then the story of good old Daniel Webster.
Back in the â70s, a Vancouver TV critic blasted a Texas setting show for phony accents. I wrote giving ten authentic Texas accents with a speaker sufficiently well-known in Canada as an illustration for each. They wouldnât publish it.. I did admit that my Piney Woods East Texas example â Ladybird Johnson â was really a combination of Hill Country Texas and rural Alabama, but the sound was the same. The show was accurate for Wichita Falls to Quanah..pschearer: I would really need to hear it, but your transcription sounds north-east Texas. I once knew a fellow student who delighted in those around-the-room introductions with, â:Mah name is Takioshi Ahbay frum Kobee Jahpaynâ. He had practiced English in Lufkin before enrolling. His regular English was much the same, but I think he thickened it a bit for the intros.
I was always annoyed by Al Cappâs insistence on using âyoââ in place of âyouâ, as in âYoâ must beâŠâ . âYouâreâ or âyourâ, fine, but used in place of you? You must bout of yoâ mind.
