From Wikipedia:“A visiting card, also known as a calling card, is a small paper card with one’s name printed on it.In 18th century Europe the footmen of aristocrats and royalty would deliver these first European visiting cards to the servants of their prospective hosts solemnly introducing the arrival of their owners.”Apparently Arlo thought it was funny to leave one on the bathroom door.
If I’m not mistaken, leaving a calling card can also imply a request that the recipient call on the card-leaver at his convenience. Meaning that Arlo is waiting for Janis to come find him!
Calling cards were still a thing in the 70’s and perhaps even in the very early 80’s in the Army. It was expected you and your spouse would visit your Brigade Commander and leave your calling card in their punch bowl by the door.

Oh, if only she had let him in. Then we could have heard… Mrs. Day, you’re trying to seduce me. Aren’t you?

She’s a middle-aged married mother of a grown son, but she still knows how to be hot.

Could his ardor be fading? Twas once upon a time that he would not have gone away.

He asked if she was receiving visitors- she said no- so he left a calling card as notice that he had been there. Very old-timey.
