A little time in the food service industry will soon supplant Linda’s genocidal programming with one of overall contempt for people, regardless of race or social caste!
Holly is right tho. Linda needs to keep busy and interact. What better job than a cafe. She can save the shiners for Larry Lynx if he brings his stoned butt in again. Oh, THAT would be gooood! Koalas are cute and plushy but verrry territorial. Look at those arms. She doesnt look like a pushover just depressed.
Social integration by one of the more social jobs in the world. The Art of Serving. I do not make fun of it. My wife was one of the best at waitressing I ever saw. Your glass or cup was always full. Your check prompt and correct. Never saw her mess up an order. She worked in a Restaurant out in West Texas where us oil field workers would come in vast numbers. At any one time there could be 50 to 60 of us. The banter back and forth was crisp fresh and clean. No silly or rudeness there. She was the only waitress. So impressed me I gave her a big tip. I married her. Boy was the manager upset when we moved. Are we now having an episode to Two Broke Girls. They are not quite Laverne and Shirley not chummy enough yet.Why not continue the seasonal routines once done as humans. Are they different because their outer form is Anthro? Still human inside and always will be. That’s the whole point. What defines human? Outward appearance or what is inside your heart? I wonder if they celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanza or any others?
Considering we have not seen any plant life except the magic tree, I suppose the wreath is artificial. Unless it is made from the remains of attempts at hydroponics. I believe Aaron did promise to show us the Endtowners efforts at growing food other than beans.
Y’know, I kinda hoped…Linda needs something to take her mind off her troubles…but is Linda getting a job as a waitress, or maybe assisting Maurice as assistant chef? Most of the time, you start out washing dishes…#By the way, the devil’s in the details, so to speak…I like the cat with the corncob pipe sitting on the curb…I like the Christmas wreath hanging from the Endtown Cafe door.
That could actually be a briar pipe (there’s a shape like that called a Poker, I have one. Also, Missouri Meerschaum (the #1 maker of corncob pipes) also manufactured hardwood pipes with the same shape.
Linda as a recetionist, so she would already have some professional social skills. That would leave being able to take orders rom many (restarant customers) intead of one r a few (the bosses).
Ladies and gentlemen and anthros…Let us pause for a moment to remenbeemr thise lost in the elementary school shooting where twenty six were lost. Of those, eighteen were children by a crazed gunman. And pray for thier fanilies. Blessed Be…:-(
As a smoker I’d note that nicotine has always made me feeling better and even now, smoking a cigar is one of the few things that makes me feel sociable. There is a lot of suffering going around Endtown and I’m imagine that tobacco is some folks’ way of dealing with it. The one thing I’m wondering about is where they got the tobacco, but I’d imagine it was either stockpiled by the architects of Endtown or brought to Endtown by the lucky foragers who found drug stores and tobacconists.
Another thing to note is that Endtown has a 30s-40s-50s look to it in terms of architecture, clothing ect… presumably because Aaron Neathery likes that particular look. Smoking of all kinds was very common in this time frame.
It would seem to me that the representing of a wreath would be force of habit. Not a religious reminder. Need a close look, it cannot be made of fronds of pine ? A lot of us who do not celebrate the birthday of Christ, still capitalise on the holiday because it is " habit" in the maximum force in this society. The drama of Christmas is used even without a serious or active belief . So what …… it is fun and you get some good things. My daughter sent me a rudolph rain deer flashing red nose. Sort of like adding stupid to ugly. Snork.. :>)Blessed Be
@dirtyoldlady: Holiday wreaths are a much older custom than Christianity – the northern European Yule holiday featured decorating the great indoors with evergreen branches. Every culture has some way of celebrating around the Winter Solstice. Part of the original Yule symbolism involved the Cycle of the Year and the return of light after the shortest day of the year. The wreath, whatever it’s made of (pixels?), could be seen as a symbol of hope, appropriate for Endtown..
As a long time comics reader, I have a question question and a comment. Is Aaron planning another seasonal reference by decking the halls with boughs of Holly, or maybe some pun-ishment on that theme?Since it was not mentioned in Peanuts or Peanuts Christmas here on gocomics, HAPPY BEETHOVEN’S BIRTHDAY, EVERYONE! Also, remember to vote early and often at topwebcomics for Endtown 2.0, Doc Rat and Endtown.THANKS, JusSayin
Someone a couple days ago wondered what Wally does in Endtown. I figured that, since he was an engineer, he might be in demand for any number of construction projects, say, for example, the food projects…
The great thing about DVDs, print media and the internet is that you can know lots of things you didn’t experience first hand. I feel the same way about the “musclecar” era of 1962-1972 even though, being born in 1963 I was a little young to participate.
“In the comments to Sunday’s Non Sequitur there is a nice long pun regarding Beethoven, worth looking for.”I first heard that joke close to 35 years ago, but the setup was shorter (Beethoven is spotted at the bottom of the ocean, erasing one of his score sheets.)

Great idea! Nothing more interactive than a cafe!

Linda the waitress! If you stiff her on her tip or you try to dine-and-dash, she’ll kill you!!!

So she gets a dress and white apron, too?

Love the wreath on the door. Endtown must celebrate Christmas too. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

A busy waitress often doesn’t have time to worry about anything except the next order. And if he/she will tip. And how much.Blessed Be

By the way, what work does Wally do in endtown?
CaptainKiddeo about 12 years ago
Wally, with his quick MacGyver way of finding solutions to sudden problems, should be one of the scavengers…but I don’t think Aaron has told us yet.
Francis362003 about 12 years ago
Look on the last panel everyone. On the door. A singe of Christmas.
witchspell63 about 12 years ago
Ahhh, Christmas in Endtown. Temps turned down..powder making its way down like snow
finder10030 about 12 years ago
Linda the waitress, this should be good. Gonna be a lot of Endtowners sporting shiners I think.
Darwinskeeper about 12 years ago
As a devout pipesmoker I love the picture of the cat with the pipe in the third panel.
witchspell63 about 12 years ago
