I think Her Maj is watching waaay too much television these days. C’mon, HRH, get up and get out, get some fresh air!

I’m having trouble figuring out what the four named comics have in common. Lio is a current and often brilliant strip. Henry is long gone and was never funny. Little Lulu is also long gone, but I remember it as an amusing comic book, never a newspaper strip. And when I first started subscribing to online comics years ago, Ferd’nand was the first strip to bore me enough to cancel. So what is Pab trying to tell us here?

Three of those four characters never speak, hence the “refused to comment.” I’m not sure what Little Lulu is doing in there, though – perhaps a slip of the brain for Otto Soglow’s Little King, which was another silent strip?

In her original cartoon panel incarnation, Lulu also never spoke. She was, essentially, Henry in a dress.

It was only in the Dell comic book, after they paired her up with a supporting cast, that she spoke.

Henry’s still going - check the King Features website.

And “never funny” is a personal judgement. I still enjoy Henry and Ferd’nand, although they aren’t as laugh-filled as some strips.

farren: They’re a lot like Lio in that way. They’re all acquired tastes.
