I must be dim, âcause I donât think I get this one either. Did the dog have a wee at the snow catman? Is it a live cat covered in snow? Whatâs the significance of snowless bit of road surface, or the Bolshevik and the levitating dog? Arlo looks outraged, rather than shocked, so my first assumption of a road accident is probably false.
Dammit, this is approaching Cow Tools territory levels of incomprehensibility for me.
I thought the road and sidewalk were just to show the proximity of the snowcat to insulting passers-by. Didnât realize anything about poison and melting.
From the look on Arloâs face in the last panel, Iâd say the dog is peeing on the snowcat and so he is shielding Luddieâs eyes from the horror. The comment about the Bolshevik and the levitating dog made me LOL. :-)
If there is anyone who understands this comic every day, there is something wrong with them. Half the fun is trying to understand the dayâs message to us.
Panel 1: Shot of the snow catPanel 2: Camera pans back to show snow cat on sidewalkPanel 3: Man walking dogPanel 4: Arlo covering the catâs eyes probably because the dog is âmarkingâ the snow cat.

Arlo is shielding the cat from seeing the death of the snowman cat as it melts. The patch of road is to show that the snow is melting.

Poor snow cat, Iâd have thought that the dog was adding insult to injury.

Apparently some of the more naive readers have never heard of the adage that dog piss is poison. That applies to snow cats as well as to lawns.

Zipper the wonder dog, my chocolate Labrador, wants to leave his calling card on every tree and fire hydrant we walk pass.

According to todayâs Red and Rover itâs a sign the dog really liked it.

I would go with the dog marking his territory on the snow cat...Thus Arlo covering Ludwigâs eyes.

My take: the snow cat was already melting, and then the dog completed the indignity.
