I would say that her annoyance is because he chose food over sharing her space. It’s an ego thing.

Siblings. If you tell them that they are doing something annoying, they will do it even more. They have a word for that in the Philippines: Nakakapagbabagabag.

He offered her a choice of what was annoying – his chewing or his reading. She said chewing, so he’s still doing that. If she’d said reading, he’d still be reading over her shoulder, but not chewing.
