I think she does have a friend.

I agree that, at this point, I think we can very well say that she sees mutants as real people, now. Poor girl, but at least she went straight to Maude instead of doing something foolish.

I think she has three good friends, Maude,Holly and Meg. Must not let the “nasties,” pun intended, rule to the point of stupidity for the little guy and the witless, without complete education for everybody the whole thing is going to fall apart. Blessed Be

In a biosuit, you could never really hug.

I love Maude’s hoof-like hands. She has what is presumably a battery-operated bedside clock. Endtown has power supplies for lighting in the streets and the’sky. There is an electric cooker in the apartment building. I wonder if people can use rechargeable batteries.

Sisterly bonding.Now, if only Maude would make some chocolate ice cream…

I love the fact that the sound effects are always in French: “Clic”.

The bag shows up in panel four. Did Linda bring the cake home? Given Aaron’s attention to detail, I don’t think he wanted us to notice until after we got the rest of the story so far.

Beautiful detail work in the first panel…the butterflies and flowers on the lampshaade, the retro alarm clock, the half-hidden picture of Mr. Hefner…#Also the emotional impact…I wish I could wring out something with that power when I write…

You’re so right with that statement.

The use of perspective is so masterful. It’s like we are backed off to give them some privacy for their grief.

…and having read Manuel Lim’s comment, I couldn’t disagree more. Think of what she came from, the violence of stealing sentient brains from bodies (having a son notwithstanding), and all else connected with her former role, to one of providing compassion to a dying man. A change, yes; but far from it being unhealthy, she’s going through the pain that will bring her into a true mental health.

Well Linda could have been holding the bag. Then put it down between panels to receive the hug.But I would prefer that it was those mysterious forces between the panels that put it there.Yes the Grendels live.

That is what Linda needed from yesterday post. Its not her fault but she feels like it is. Some one just to say its okay. They can hug in Bio suits as Topsiders. I imagine its just like rubbing latex together. This hug is flesh on flesh (I know with clothing on but you can at least feel the warmth of the other person. The bio suit is self contained nothing in nothing out.) Just how long is she going to go around getting eggs out of trash cans before there are issues? There is still the discovery of the milk by the day waitress. What did or has she done? She does not like Linda so would use it for a purpose.

Mr_shermanWhen I said Linda indirectly caused the death look at what she did and would think. The charge of Manslaughter states that a death was caused either by omission or indirect actions of the perpetrator. No court would convict Linda of such a charge but given the circumstances charges could be done. The investigation of the death would show natural causes so the charge would probably not hold. It would not even be considered in this case but Linda feels she caused the death. She cannot help that feeling. It’s not like as in war or doing what I do. But I deal with officers who have had to kill and they feel the same way as Linda. A bad place to be for a good person. And funny you should bring up issuing a ticket. That did happen to me. I wrote a teenage a citation for excessive speed. Two days later he killed himself with his dad’s 357 magnum. He left a note saying the citation and getting into trouble made him feel useless and bad. He decided he was worthless so killed himself. My actions apparently pushed him over the edge. The violation was his choice and my action was mine. His family never never forgave me. His fathers last words was that I die a terrible horrible death for “causing” the death of his son. I gave thoughts to my actions. Had I warned him? Took no action? I like a soldier did my job. His family did attempt to take me to civil court for wrongful death charges. A hearing was held. I was not billed. But you see I was still charged.

I agree in entirety! Typical of our “give me everything now” and “I’m not responsible” society. The teen and parents, both, were responsible for their own actions and mindset. Perhaps the father needs to look at himself and how he figured into his son’s poor self-image. . .not to mention gave the availablility to the gun. It’s amazing how we try make our schools, churches, and, yes, even police responsible for raising our kids while we’re off busily chasing the almighty dollar. Veteran, I hope that whole mess didn’t weigh on you for too long – simply not your fault.

That is what the court said. But the point is anyone can be accused. There may be individuals that come out against Linda. I think there will be. There always are. It may not be right or even just but it can be done. The criminal part is one thing the civil part (especially here in Texas) is wide open. I saw a law suit against Ford filed by a driver. He had a four wheel drive pick up truck. He lost control on a snowy icy road up in the Amarillo area. He sued Ford because the four wheel drive did not keep him from crashing so it was Ford’s fault. I was called to testify. All I had to point out as it was snowing and icy therefore very dangerous to drive on. He SHOULD have been off the road at home but he insisted on driving in it. Never even got out of the preliminary hearing phase.No I did not waste time considering it much. Just the thoughts did cross my mind. They will. I knew I was right in what I did so I dismissed the thoughts pretty quick. The lawsuit was surprising as I did not expect it. I knew the anger towards me would hold but the suit was unexpected.

Now I base the Manslaughter on Texas laws. Each State may be somewhat different. Some call it Wrongful Death or Injury. For example: You are driving down the road. You drop your cell phone. You reach around to pick it up. You loose control and crash your car. The passenger in the rear seat is killed. Manslaughter can be charged.You know your muffler is hanging loose under the car. While going down the road it falls off. A truck hits it tossing it into the oncoming lane. It crashes through the windshield killing the driver. You did not directly kill the person but your omission to fix a situation caused the death indirectly.You can be charged.A person knows the bridge is out. The person sits there watching car after car run off the bridge. A person dies. Even though it may not be your job to try to stop people or warn them your omission to even attempt to warn them can hold you responsible. Now you get out there and they drive by with you waving about? At least you tried.That is why most people leave an area like that or do not stop and go on. It may not be a criminal case as those have a direct intent but a civil case can be filed as it does not require intent just the fact that could you have done something.The culpable mental states in Texas are:Willingly, Knowingly, Intentionally, or with Criminal IntentThese are very specific to a crime but going civil they become less specific. The muffler would be Knowingly. You knew it was bad but failed to fix it so you are held at fault.In Linda’s case the argument would be made she should have known of his delicate nature and not upset him. Now if he had killed himself for one she would feel a whole lot worse and one could argue civilly her action although not bad caused him to die. A doctor could be called in to show he had a bad heart and any shock could do him in. Linda caused a shock by the presenting of a cake. He went home and died in his sleep. Standard procedure there would be investigations, inquiries, interviews. Although Linda did nothing wrong she would still go through the process and it can weigh on you. She does have support with Maude. One person like that can make all the difference in going though this kind of situation.I am still waiting to see when Holly finds out.

It must be more comfortable for Maude to thread her tail through a hole in her gown than to just cover it.

If no action was taken, a situation that should have changed would not, whether it’s an old man looking for cake, or a teenager speeding. Sometimes the action results in tragedy, but if nothing is done, it can’t result in anything better, either. Mr. Hopper would have stayed in his loop and found no solace. A teenage boy would have continued speeding and possibly kill someone else. If that had happened, I wonder if his parents would have looked for a scapegoat such as an officer who didn’t stop him and ticket him for speeding.

My, this discussion took an unusual turn. Sometimes people have no rational reason for pursuing some matter to the bitter end…but some (maybe very few) are rational enough to stop pursuing it.

its always intresting seen how far these discussions go and the different angles they take, not to mention everyone trying to psychoanalyze everything. I think we entertain AN just as much as he entertains us!!

A bitter end or just an end. It is a discussion. I can if necessary keep it to one line statements. Would that be rational? The issue is how will Linda be viewed as a result of this incident. All here are concerned. I draw from my past having gone thru stuff like this. Aaron draws from life experience. It is a reality from a certain point of view. His. Do the rules there equivocate to rules here? There is no Endtown book of rules to say how they live so I (among others) speculate.Obviously you like it as you took the time to read it to make your decision.I care for the character and her well being. One likes to read of a winner, survivor, hero, just making it out alive. So I express my concerns on what might happen. Maybe they will all sit at the tower and contemplate jumping off? Linda gets caught stealing stuff tossed in the trash and get sent outside to topside? Its a discussion. Plain and simple. I enjoy the banter back and forth. I have my views others have theirs. I have my proponents and opponents.I just post like everyone else.

i forgot who wrote as Linda losing her humanity. NO ONE in Endtown lost thier humanity! They lost thier appearance, prehaps to survive in the virus envirornment. I keep saying this but they consider themselves people, just different looking. i mean, there are interspecies relationships, possibly meaning they look past the appearance and look at the inside, as persons. look at Gustine and Albert, Maude and her husband, Wally and Holly. if you look at the backgrounds of past comics, you will see different species together, some even hand in hand. Linda din:na lost her humanity, she lost someone she wanted to help. Prehaps she actually saw a person. That, fellow Endtowners, IS humanitySorry for my soapbox. I maybe a noob, (Nov 2012) but i read them all. am i the only one who sees this? Endtowners are people…..
