"Is there such a thing as a truly unselfish act?" "Like, if I am doing a good deed for someone, am I doing it because my deed will help that person or because it makes me feel good when I am appreciated?" "So the time you bought me that gallon of chocolate fudge-opolis ice cream, you didn't buy it cuz you know I really like it. You bought it cuz it made you feel good to give." "Exactly." "You selfish...!!" FWING

Stupid cow. The fact is: you got your ice cream, and there was a big chance that the next time Billy wanted to feel good he might buy you another gallon. Now he won’t. Stupid cow.

It was evil and crazy Immanuel Kant who introduced the idea that no act can be moral if you derive any benefit from it at all. This requires complete renunciation of the self and total dedication to something greater than one’s self. No wonder Germany is the country that gave the world both Nazism and Communism.
