Remember, ol’ Buzz was the first person in the history of the solar system ever to leave the moon…The ultimate been there, done that move….Here’s why he’s my hero though. He gave a speech one time, and a guy kept buggin’ him saying that the moon landing was a hoax…Buzz slugged him in the mouth…knocked him out….Dude got a historical lesson dropped on him…

My alma mater’s mascot is a goat. I feel you!

The problem is no one refers to the Jayhawk as a big headed joker. I’m a KU alum and in 20+ years I’ve never heard that insult.

U of Nebraskans were originally called the Bugeaters (so Cornhuskers was a step up). UC Irvine has the anteater and UMKC has ‘Kasey’ the Kangaroo — but Evergreen State’s mascot is the geoduck — try picturing that on a sweatshirt or chanting — "Gooey, gooey, geoducks!!

The best audience I ever had was at a KU-SMU football game. We had a classic jazz arrangement of their fight song, complete with slow beat ending that brought down the stadium. We would play after games until the crowd thinned. We played though the whole book twice and they were still there. And our team won too. The next game was in Austin with a progressive jazz version of the Eyes of Texas. You could cut the air with a knife! They did not dig. That’s show biz!
