Lemming 1: Well, guys, this is it... Time to jump off this mountain and end our miserable lives forever... What's the view like from up there? Lemming 2: To die for. Lemming 1: Let's keep things serious, Bob.
Lemmings became the subject of a popular misconception that they commit mass suicide when they migrate. It is not a mass suicide, but the result of their migratory behavior. Driven by strong biological urges, some species of lemmings may migrate in large groups when population density becomes too great. Lemmings can swim and may choose to cross a body of water in search of a new habitat. In such cases, many may drown if the body of water is so wide as to stretch their physical capability to the limit. This fact, combined with the unexplained fluctuations in the population of Norwegian lemmings, gave rise to the misconception.9
Lemmings’ Leap is relatively spacious; so why are these lemmings standing one upon another’s shoulders instead of one behind/beside another?A) Because it’s a cartoon and it looks funnier that way;B) Because they’re lemmings and it looks funnier that way;C) Because they’re an acrobatic act fleeing in desperation from Cirque du Soleil, and it looks funnier that way;D) Because that Bob is an awfully bossy fellow and insists on being top dog—err, top lemming.Or, the ever-popular Pastis Choice, E), it’s easier to draw that way.
9 2% of lemmings who were recently surveyed said they are strong swimmers but, not having invented the compass, often lose their way when crossing large bodies of water and out of sight of land. Of course, given these conditions many people consider it suicidal, or at least highly risky behavior, to attempt to navigate large bodies of water.
I tried to get one of the “not’s” out of the next-to-last sentence, above, after posting it, but the Power that Be’s wouldn’t let me (again). I’d say take out the first one.
two lemmings fell into a large vat of buttermilk… one lemming gave up and drown. The other lemming, seeing this, laughed it’s head off… and died, too. Lemming put it this whey!

People who deny lemming suicide need to go jump off a cliff.

Well, science aside, I know why these lemmings are committing suicide.
They’re just dying to be in a comic strip.
SusanSunshine Premium Member almost 12 years ago
Meanwhile…you think debunking the tales about lemming suicide will “prove” that Pearls Before Swine isn’t “realistic?”
LOL!! Guess you missed the talking pig and rat.
knight1192a almost 12 years ago
Rerturn of the Lemmings. Or maybe we should call them the Refusings cause they refuse to follow lemming nature and commit mass suicide.

They’re jumping into hot fudge sauce – death by chocolate. It’s not suicide, it’s addiction. Mmmmm…
