Oops – it is rather late tonight – ended up posting a day late! My desk has a little clean spot just now – a very rare occurrence lately. It is going to stay that way for about a week and a half. Then, when my wife and I get back from our visit to Hawaii, it will disappear under a load of 3 weeks worth of work. (Work to do always seems to double when you are away). In all my years of working (and that is over 4 decades now) I have never had a clean desk. One boss tried to insist – he gave up when I explained that I have a good memory for physical locations so if I cleaned my desk off every night it would take a couple of hours the next morning to find everything again – and that would be a couple of hours where I would not be programming. Hope all goes well for the Clan this next week or so. I hate it when I get back and find unpleasant things have happened to someone in our happy group.

A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind

It’s so easy to look at a magazine and think, “I want that in my house!”. Then when I start doing it, real life comes into play, and it never looks like it. But I’m happy with most of my stuff, and if my desk is a mess because I keep all of the little things that my kids make for me, so be it.Good morning, Cathy clan!

My [home office] desk is a little cluttered right now with family photos, a few recipes that need filing, some magazine and newspaper articles to go through and my journal but other than that, it’s cleaner now than it has been in years!!!!! ;-)

hendelca: So JEALOUS of you right now!!! Where in Hawaii will you be going? My husband and I went to Oahu on our honeymoon 25 years ago but unfortunately, we haven’t had an opportunity to go back again since then. Hope you have a wonderful time. Aloha!!!!! ;-)

lightenup: I don’t know of any Chrome updates at the beginning of last week but then I’m so computer-stupid that there very well could have been and I just didn’t realize it [as my husband says, there’s always something going on in the background of our computers that we don’t know about while we’re on there doing other things]. If it’s a setting problem, then I have no idea what it is, what happened to change it or what I’d need to do to change it back again — if that’s even possible. While everything that’s going on is aggravating [particularly the loss of the calendar feature], at least I can still see and make comments here and that’s what’s most important to me. As for seattlepi.com and oregonlive.com, I don’t get any Shockwave Flash messages there at all. The comments feature just disappeared there [as well as at ArcaMax] at around the same time I started having problems here and they never came back again. And while that’s aggravating, too, of course, it’s not something I miss nearly as much as I’d miss if that were to EVER happen to me here at G.C. — so that’s something I’m definitely thankful for at any rate!!!!!

In theory, a clean desk could be a nice goal to work towards.

In execution? It might be the sign of a nut-job. If MY desk is anything to go by, that is.
