I’m a woman, and I don’t understand this at all. I have friends who would have a fit if they got something practical as a gift. Me, I asked for—and received—a compost bin for Christmas one year. Jewelry is a waste of money, flowers die, and chocolate—well, I tell my husband if he’s getting me chocolate to wait until Feb. 15th when it all goes on sale.
I told my boyfriend not to get me flowers anymore, but a plant instead. I like flowers as much as the next girl, but they die to fast. Plants live a lot longer. I’m not into jewelry so that would be a waste of money, but I’m all for chocolate. :)
When I was in my early 20’s, I worked in a grocery store. I was helping out in Floral on Valentine’s Day. I learned how crazy and materialistic it can be. We were selling balloons, flowers, and especially roses like they were going out of style! I was getting guys coming in saying “If I don’t spend or outdo her friends’s boyfriends, I’ll never hear the end of it!”. That is very sad. I didn’t before, but I really vowed to never do that to a guy. Also, years later, I was in an abussive marriage. I got out of it safely, thankfully. Whenever I hear a someone complain that what their significant other got them was not good enough, I have some great lines. “Do they love you, respect you, never belittle you, have they ever cheated on you, have they never used violence on you? Those are the best presents a person could ever give you in a relationship.”. Good to help p pole remember the important stuff. :)
As I keep saying, you need to know the person you are with. As since we all (Irving included) know that Cathy is a whack-a-doodle (great term, Sis!), he just needs to make a good guess. We all know it’ll be wrong either way. ;-)
Hello Cathy clan! You have a great outlook on life, quanyindove! I’m glad you got out of that relationship safely, and you’re so healthy now. Hugs!
AACK—why is life so complicated? But, I’m a big fan of the K.I.S.S. approach (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Chocolate and a nice card—stat!
Still hoping we’ll hear again someday from our old friends including Aaron, Billy, and KoolFunkyGrrl. If any of you happen to be reading tonight, we miss you and would love to “see” you here again.
Quanyindove…glad you got out of your bad relationship safely…I work on a council for domestic violence and know how hard it can be to end an unsafe relationship. Good for you!!

Don’t worry guys, most wives are not like this. Just ask her what she wants.

My hubby likes to buy me pretty pieces of clothing as gifts, since I seldom shop for new clothes for myself…
