Cathy: Um... want to steam some broccoli? Irving: Nah. I don't want to get a pan wet. Let's order in. 2007: Year of the Health Conscious Consumer. Thinks more about fresh fruit and vegetables. I’m guilty of this. I buy fruits and veggies with good intentions, but they always go bad before I get around to eating them.

Fruit and veggies are too expensive to toss out, don’t buy more than you can use in a few days.

I know it’s wrong, but I am so with Irving on this one! Takeout has gotten healthier over the last decade, so that’s a plus, but you know he’s looking for a burger rather than a veggie stir-fry.

Yup—I saw this one coming, after the next-to-last panel.
Personally, I try to eat veggies and other healthy foods, though I know I could do better.

‘Fresh’ fruits and vegetables in this part of the world – the northeastern part of Ontario – just don’t exist. Other than at our local farmer’s market (open only during the growing season) the fruits and vegetables are picked before they are ripe somewhere in the southern States or Mexico, packed onto a truck, driven to a huge food distribution terminal in Toronto, packed into another truck (after who knows how many days) and shipped to our local supermarkets. Fresh? Not a chance. Have read somewhere that for us to buy frozen (not processed) fruits and vegetables is actually better than buying what is called fresh.
And that concludes my rant for the day. Hope everyone visiting Cathy today is having a great Sunday.

Hendelca…I was surprised to find a pretty good market in Parry Sound…but then I am usually only there in the summer, so I don’t know what happens in the winter months.
