Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for January 12, 2020
Transcript:
Cathy: I haven't gained weight, but I've outgrown all my pants! Mom: Someone hasn't been exercising. Cahty: I know, I know... it's muscle loss. Mom: Wrong. It's memory loss. As we age, our fat gets disoriented and wanders around the body looking for a comfier spot to rest. Exercise snaps the fat back to attention and helps it remember where it's supposed to be. Also, if you exercise regularly, the fat's less likely to stray because it's always afraid you'll start jumping around again and make it dizzy. We're not even trying to lose you anymore, weight! We just want to help you stay put! Cathy: I have to get out of here, mother!! Mom: Excellent! Even a brisk walk away from the truth will help keep the fat on its toes!

The word “fat” just scares the pants off of everybody. If the pants are tight…they at least won’t fall off!

I’m not fat. My big, muscular chest is just a bit lower than it used to be.

An interesting analogy. I can just imagine my poor lost fat wandering its way south. Probably being swept along with my hair.

I’m with Cathy in the second panel in the bottom row. The nut-job doesn’t fall far from the tree …
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.

Actually what Cathy’s mom said kind of makes sense. I know after a round of exercise – like a session of tap classes – I weight the same but my waist is a little smaller. It must be the fat going back to where it belongs :)
Winter storm warning with very high winds in effect for us since last night. We got 2" of gentle snow yesterday a rather brisk breeze this morning. Just plowed the driveway and the sunshine was bright and beautiful – and no wind at all. Still a long way below freezing but it is a great day to be outside (bundled up of course).I hope the sun is shining for you today as well.

I once met Ms. Guisewite at a book singing. She was a charming person who had to be a size 4

alexius23…I met her too and she was really tiny….Mom does have a reasonable theory tho…fat does seem to redistribute itself…I haven’t gained weight, but my waistline has expanded the past few years.
