Irving: These jeans are perfect! Let's get out of here! Cathy: Great, you can alter them later. Irving: Why would I alter them? They're perfect! Cathy: They SEEM perfect...But after you've lived with them awhile, they'll RELAX INTO WHO THEY REALLY ARE and then you'll NEED to alter them!! Believe me, once we really get to know the "perfect" ones, we ALWAYS want to do some alterations!! Irving: Men will never understand how women think! Cathy: Just as well. It would spoil it if you had too much warning!

She is not wrong. If it fits now, once you wash them, they won’t fit right anymore.

Why is Irving buying only one pair of his perfect jeans? He needs at least 3 pairs. One to wear, one needs washing, and one saved for “special”.

I’ve never had to alter any pair of jeans I’ve ever bought because they somehow, magically, became “too relaxed” after I washed them. If anything, they’re almost always a little too tight when I put them on for the first time afterwards, but it doesn’t really take all that long before they loosen back up and fit more comfortably again.

I think Cathy’s words really apply to people too. I just wished I could shrink in the wash instead of becoming more ’relaxed.
Definitely fall now. We have seen a few flocks of geese stopping by on their way south and the leaves are starting to turn yellow on the birch trees. Neighbours have started to take in their docks so I guess I had better start as well. Had to go into the water today to take out the intake hose for the irrigation pump – that was COLD! I guess the lack of sunshine recently has allowed to water to cool off too much.
