AHOY BALLARDEERS ! The ole Capt. is heading home and will be pulling into Ballard Cove this evening – fair warning !Better warn Monkey and Susan to have plenty of vittles on hand – I’m especially craving some yak ribs, banana bread, and snickerdoodles. Also tell Fenton to have plenty of Guinness Stout and Redbreast Irish whiskey on hand… I’m sure that between Red and myself we can do justice to the both.See ya’ll later and when I get to the Tiki, drinks are on me !
I had a goldfish that lived six years. I named him Nathan Scales. He started out as a little feeder in a fishbowl. I moved him to an aquarium and he grew and grew. When he died I didn’t know whether to flush him or filet him, he was so big. I dropped him in the river, to spend eternity with the other fishies.
@Vet,I have previously made mention of Cuddles Cockatoo (and even Fitzroy, my little Timneh). That is Fitz in this avatar. Most people seem to assume that animal companions are cats or dogs.
I am very unfamiliar with medications of any kind, tho’ my new doctor has proscribed 10mg of Lisinopril for this first month and a whole LOT of supplements (based on all the bloodwork that he had lab tests for. I have had no heart events of any kind but my readings were consistently high so I will be trying to meditate also (difficult as my mind tends to one subject ;-D).
Welcome back, Ling….I’ll see you in a bit at the Tiki. The little monkeys and “Bev’s” fireman are tending bar tonight….whether or not the Monkey falls asleep, they’ll do ya right.
@Ling, I just finished 1/2 hr on the strider and will use my Resperate for another before doing another on that. Naturally, I also love to share my favorite recipes or any that others like.
I usually had a single filet cut and trimmed by me completely and consumed about 1/3 of that in a week. Most of my meat was a free range turkey breast roasted with the skin (to hold a sliver of butter and handfuls of garden herbs) and with more herbs and leftover carrots and onions in the cavities. I discarded the skin and other stuff and sliced the meat into servings. That lasted aroud 6 weeks just for me. I had usually about 4-5 servings of fresh fruit and 2 of vegetables every day.New doctor has no sweets including all fruit (even apple and tomato) Though I have had 4 grape tomatoes in an eggwhite omlet and some fresh squeezed lime juice each a few times in this first month.
I have been cooking for over 50 years (had a mother who did not) but have still not tried tofu (surprisingly he has) and my last visit was when I received his 5 pages with “eat and not” so the next chance I want to ask about just what I can have (he has “soft tofu” on the list, but I think I’d prefer the firm.
He would also like me to cut wheat/gluten, but I’ll do that only for a short time. I had already been using ww flour in place of any all purpose etc, though I have almond flour that I used to bake some Amaretti. I have bought some all wild and some mixed rice for the new diet and I already had quinoa flakes. I made some baking powder biscuits with the flakes and ww flour, butter and various savory seasons AND lots of toasted hulled sunflower. He proscribed 2ce a day Curcumin (not knowing that I use Tumaric as an everyday spice mix, with Cayenne and Indian ginger); good in an omelet and to spice up V8 juice which I also delute 1/2 with water. Those biscuits were very tasty, though I had to chill overnight and still a little crumbly. He prefers the seeds over nuts and I was already using those in my old breakfast bars (but with raisons and chopped apple). I am seaching for other similar recipes (without butter) that use quinoa or other grains to complete protein intake that I can keep handy to round off my meals. I do all the bean dishes from scratch with soaking and I’m fine with bean salad (lots of red wine vinager, dry mustards and dill seed ground in a pestle. A vegetarian chili is great too with mixed rice on the side and salads. After talking to the doctor, I’ll be buying the tofu so could use recipes if you have a fav there, epecially if only the soft.

It’s not backwards swimming, but a heckuva belch.

Nice that Pickles has an appreciative home…. he’d be quite unpopular in certain circles.
Especially amongst forward-thinking fish.

Pickles is always fishing for compliments.

Make that GOLD fish.

Shika!
Hi to you too!Are we finally here at the same time?Let me buy you a yak sandwich!
BTW goldfish are a species of carp and can grow very large. Not as large as koi, a different sort of carp…but darn big.
That’s why people should NOT dispose of LIVE goldfish in public waterways.
