Ah, good ol’ Sheb Wooley & his #1 hit, Purple People Eater, back in 1958. We’d sing it on the school bus on the way home. Sheb also known as Pete in Rawhide (Clint Eastwood was Rowdy Yates in the same show.) Sheb also performed as Ben Colder who sang parodies of hit country songs. Example: Johnny Cash: Because she’s mine, I walk the line. Ben: I paid the fine, I couldn’t walk the line.

I’m afraid I taught my children this lyrics and now my oldest has five children to whom she’s taught the words and my youngest is a pre-school teacher who teaches it to her students. The world is doomed to hear these words for several more generations.

I have to admit… after teaching my kids the song, I sing it wrong to make their heads explode.

Once on Riders in the Sky, about the time the Soviet Union fell, Slocum and Charlie had been launched into space on a NASA vessel, encountered a forgotten Cosmonaut, and introduced him to the orange drink they had on board. His reaction was, “Ooh, ee, ooh, ah ah! Ting?”Slocum: TangCharlie: Walla, walla, bing bang.
