Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for April 06, 2013
Transcript:
Rat: Goat said you thought Jello jiggled because it was possessed by a ghost. Pig: Yeah. Pretty stupid of me, huh? Rat: Yeah, well here's what's not stupid. Whenever I rub a balloon against the fur on my head, this insane ghost appears out of nowhere and pins it to my head. Pig: Ahhhhhhhh. Goat: Why don't you just tell him about static electricity? Rat: Pipe down, science nerd.

Come on, Goat — have you MET Rat? You know he torments Pig like this for the fun of it — and because he can!

A prime example of the Spilled Coffee Trope, one of the tells of Pastis. Pig is shocked by any of Rat’s insane ghost tales. Goat should be resigned by now to Rat’s merciless amoral mode of operation.

In the real world, would the balloon turn with Rat’s head in panel #4, or would it maintain its position (things at rest, stay at rest …)?I have neither the hair nor a balloon to test it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a balloon that color.

Can a ghost be insane?
jay_arrr almost 12 years ago
for some reason, I always pictured Rat as being of a rather rubbery texture… maybe because fur would make him fuzzy and cute? dunno.

Resistance is futile. Impedance, however….

People can’t fly because insane ghosts pin them to the ground.

Rat, you’re an idiot. Instead of trying to stupidly scare Pig with the whole “static electricity is an invisible ghost sticking the ballon to my head” shtick you could be smart and tell him all about static electricity and then repeated demonstrate it with a good old fashioned static electricity zap. Being your obnoxious self you’d just love repeatedly zapping poor Pig.
