‘And where are you headed this fine Sunday morning?’By the way, how does from Friday afternoon at 3pm to Sunday morning sunrise count as three days. I always wondered about that one.

All jokes aside, that’s a pretty weird piece of art all by itself. Why would Jesus rise from the grave wearing a loin cloth and a velvet cloak worthy of an emperor?? What’s with the shovel?? Gardener?? And why is Mary staring at the loincloth instead of averting her gaze or something?? I think that Baldung guy must have been drunk all throughout the paiting of this “masterpiece.”
I just noticed the shovel after the comments. Hadn’t zoomed the image. I think they crucified people nude, the speedo is to secure a G rating. Looks like she is looking at the cape, not the briefs. Like maybe she will grab it before the Ascension.
Wow, is this artist captain obvious or what? For a religious painting surely not that naive. Where she’s staring, the position of her outthrust hands, his sidelong look at the audience…cackles She’s so hot she could make a dead man come. Well, technically, he is risen from the grave.
Not a fan of the artwork, but I think the artist was trying to show what the Gospels say: that Mary thought Jesus was the gardener at first, hence the shovel. This appears to be the moment when she realizes she is talking to Jesus.
As for the timeline, in Jewish time, a day was from sunset to sunset. Crucifixion, death, and burial occurred on Day 1 (Friday before sunset). The body was in the tomb through the Sabbath (sunset Friday to sunset Saturday). The resurrection occurred on Day 3 (Sunday).

Good point, but what’s going on in the background looks like bath time for babies.

And those angels playing around in the coffin is very weird. I’d like to know Dan Brown’s interpretation of this one.
