Annddd…we jump to another arc again. What a shame there are so few of these strips available.
All this commenting space for the same few stories over and over, and nothing allowed for 9 Chickweed Lane (There’d be hundreds of comments on that one).
Brooke McEldowney fought hard to have the comment section removed from Chickweed Lane and Pibgorn. As I recall he felt it distracted from the strips and I tend to agree.
Now, as for Lil Abner, the comment board has become a place to check in, in hopes one day we’ll be out of the Turnip Termite/Fosdick VS Chippendale/Duchess of Bopshire/Scragg feud recycling bin.
If Pibgorn didn’t make political statements about our current President, I’d be ok with the lack of a comments section, however, if Brooke wants to continue with these partisan hits, the comments should be open to tell him/her that they are NOT wanted. Keep the comic separate from the political blather.
“Keep the comic separate from the political blather.”I disagree. I’ve done similar work and the cartoonist’s views, political or otherwise, are an organic part of the whole. I do wish we had more “Li’l Amber” strips, though.
Pibgorn had probably the most philosophical and wide-ranging of all the comments sections. I’m not sure just how it could “distract” from the strips. And of course, I really doubt if he ever read any of the comments himself. Very few comic strip creators seem to (or to admit to it, at least!)

Why not make this the comment zone for chickweed?
