That’s nothing, Calvin. Wait until you start working in about ten or twelve years. The last couple of hours of the workday always crawl by at a snail’s pace — especially on a Friday afternoon!
If you haven’t seen this, it’s worth the time for Calvin/Hobbes/ Bill Waterson fans. It’s Waterson’s commencement speech. Advice to graduates: http://zenpencils.com/comic/128-bill-watterson-a-cartoonists-advice/
I remember reading an essay on how to impress the teacher when you are in school. One of the things that it recommended was, "Always sit in the front row, and whenever the teacher is speaking, smile, nod your head, and frequently murmur, ‘So true…….. so true……..’ " Another bit of advice was, “During class, try to avoid the temptation to look at your watch. If you should happen to look at your watch, avoid the temptation to stare at it in disbelief and shake it.”
Ironically, Calvin does live in a world where time stands still — the world of the comic strip, where he never ages.Today’s Calvin and Hobbes rerun is from 1993, but Calvin feels like he has been sitting in that same classroom since 1986:Click here: Calvin and Hobbes (June 8, 1986)
Bill Amend’s FoxTrot contains the character Jason. Unlike Calvin, the self-proclaimed boy genius, Jason really is a genius — or at least a highly gifted kid. Inexplicably, however, Jason is also a highly gifted kid who loves to sit in the classroom at school:Click here: FoxTrot (2001)
It’s a mistake to think all kids should start school at the same age.Calvin’s just not ready to be in school yet. He would’ve done fine if he just spent a few more years at home playing before starting school. And kids who start learning late end up being indistinguishable from kids who started schooling when they were very young.
Time flies when you’re having fun, but it slows down to a crawl within the confinds of the class room – unless they teach anything of interest, which becomes less likely the younger you are.
Besides which, life doesn’t work that way. We can’t always do only those things which bring us immediate pleasure, and Calvin needs to learn the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic among other things if he wants to get along in this world — nobody’s going to hire someone who’s functionally illiterate, can’t do basic math, and is culturally and socially ignorant. In other words, Calvin needs to learn to channel his intellect into productive, practical pursuits and learn to apply himself even in areas that don’t interest him; otherwise, he’ll never realize any of whatever potential he might have.
@TrulyEpic0914: I use HTML language to post the links to the comics and to display the small versions of them with my postings. I only use links to strips that are in the GoComics collection, and the small versions are generated using the same links.
It’s likely that Calvin is not being challenged. He picks up very complicated or advanced materials quickly—look at his vocabulary, for example—but he’s too bored to learn simple math. He might benefit from a different school (or teacher).

Calvin’s genius IS inestimable, but it will atrophy and be negligible if he doesn’t use (exercise) it!

Don’t you know that 6-year-old kids are faster-than-light, perpetual-motion-machines? The effects Calvin is experiencing are merely relativistic.
