    Speaking as a crazy cat lady, the tax refund should almost equal our psychiatric bills.

    Americans spend over 6 billion hours and almost $170 billion dollars a year fooling with income taxes. About 60 percent hire accountants or attorneys to do their taxes and another 30 percent use tax software.

    There was a Congress critter that was recently trying to get pets recognized as dependents that we could write off. I dunno what happened to the idea, or the guy. But I do very much consider my friend to be a dependent and very much part of my family. Sheā€™s the best! (no, Iā€™ve never claimed her on anythingā€¦ no worries)

    @Omnius said,ā€œThe biggest tax cheats are republicans, they donā€™t believe in sharing.ā€

    My 401(k) is about to run dry in another <2 years. I didnā€™t die before I thought I would. Could I come over to your house and ā€œshareā€? Iā€™m sure we could work something out, even with me as a Republican bunkieā€¦ we could find a common ground.

    Taxes. A six-letter four-letter word meaning ā€œto suck the life out of working stiffs every year even after paying out through their paychecks all year with highly-fluid laws, impossibly complex forms, and equations that only someone with a Ph.D. in mathematics could understand.ā€

    1 1/2 to 2% of those earning over one million dollars pay no taxes. They are included in the 47%.

    @Omnius:

    The dead in Chicago vote Dem.

    Repubs contribute more to charity than Dems who want to feel good by spending other peopleā€™s money. Repubs also like to know whoā€™s getting the money.

    May not be for the Feds, but it depends on the state where you live for a state refund that will cover the Feds.

    Gaurd dogs count, but only if trained for it, and itā€™d have to be pro-rated as your home office is.

    They should give the cat a human name, and claim it as a child dependentā€¦The expenses are about the sameā€¦ except for clothing anā€™ educating the human childā€¦Cats seem to be born with all the ā€˜clothingā€™ and all the education theyā€™ll ever needā€¦
