From left to right: Pa from Cliff Sterrett’s “Polly and Her Pals,” Happy Hooligan by Frederick B. Opper, Pepsi and Pete (marketing characters for the soft drink), Pottsy by Jay Irving, and Fearless Fosdick from Al Capp’s “Li’l Abner.” I was hoping Pottsy might show up this week!

Anybody who was expecting Dick Tracy will have to settle for Fearless Fosdick . . .

I thought Fosdick was at the Home for Defective Detectives.

Dick Tracy isn’t retired. Fearless Fosdick, who was Al Capp’s satire of Tracy, is. By the way, who are the other characters in today’s strip?

The irony is that the brooch probably is right where it fell — when Maggie dropped it in reaction to Smokey Stover’s entrance.

These are Cartoon Cops. No movie cops allowed.

Strictly speaking, Fearless Fosdick was a strip-within-a-strip.

Watch out, when Fosdick is around the lead is going to start flying.

Didn’t Fosdick normally have a bullet hole showing in his head?(Even for a cartoon that bothered this young 7 year old 1962)

Fosdick had bullet holes all over—but only when he’d recently been shot. (“Just a flesh wound, chief!”) He hasn’t been shot yet in this story.

Of all the characters I’ve recognized so far, the renderings are great. Fearless Fosdick is just perfect!

I guess you have to be over 80 to appreciate these strips. I don’t recognize most of these old characters.
