Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for May 02, 2013

Transcript:
Phoebe: Unnnh. Oh NO. Marigold: What? Phoebe: OH NO OH NO OH NO! Marigold: WHAT? Phoebe: I DON'T FEEL GOOD! Marigold: To clarify, is that because of the problem, or a statement of the problem?
Don’t worry, you know that something will work out… although I hope that Marigold does not do something magical. Or maybe Dakota will end up being the ladybug and fail miserably.
Actually in comics there is always a set up and a pay off. It wouldn’t be interesting if things always went right. The formula here is some thing is going to happen, some thing goes wrong then some thing adorable makes us go Aw. If things in comic strips always went well they wouldn’t be funny.
“I don’t feel good” is not the end of the world. She obviously hasn’t laryngitis, and she doesn’t seem to be so feverish as to be unable to function. (Reminder: I’ve been a semiprofessional opera singer.)
Has anyone else noticed that Ms. Simpson hasn’t participated in any discussions here for a couple months? I hope it’s because she’s building a Raine Dog buffer, or coming out with an O&M graphic novel, or something else good, rather than something bad (happening in Oz).
Heck, I use my iPhone as my alarm clock in the first place. (Although I’m not sure that clock is digital; it looks just like a 70s fake-digital electromechanical clock with flipper wheels. But then it wouldn’t go “Ring!”, so I guess it must be digital anyway.)
Let’s just appreciate the way Phoebe reacts here. “Unnnh, I’m sick…oh, crud…AW, CRUD, I’M SICK! I need to lie down and rest…and that’ll PREVENT ME FROM BEING IN THE PLAY! AAAAAAUGH!”

I hope Dakota was the understudy. Phoebe cannot go on. Viruses are immune to magic.

…Digital alarm clocks go “ring”? Not “buzz” or “beep”?

Digital alarm clocks can play whatever sound you want, just like ringtones!

I wonder how Tom Holland would’ve delivered Pheobe’s last line in this strip.
