Enjoyed this weekās Star Trek visit..Saw Star Trek Into Darkness on Thursday night. ā¦ It is a fun movie. And without giving spoilersā¦. the 3D effect was good and worth getting the clunky glasses. .Yes. I am a purist for Star Trek ā I recognise ācanonā. But Abrams ā with his first outing with Star Trek ā changed the game. So anything goes. The only canon you need to know about Star Trek is that friends will always find each other. Heroes will always be heroes. And Villains will always do villainous things. (I donāt thing that spoiler-ish, is it?)
Very true. At first, I didnāt like TNG much, what with Riker always putting his leg up on stuff to show what a he-man he was and all of the āscienceyā buzz words they were using. It grew on me though, mainly because of the performances of Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart. And they did have some good scripts too. DSN I liked mostly for the comedy(Quark and Odo). The Voyager scripts got inexplicably better after Seven of Nine joined the cast. I thought āEnterpriseā was a good try, but a bit weak. I go along with that saying that the even-numbered movies were better than the odd-numbered ones except I liked III too. And Iāve already given my opinion of the reboots.
sighā¦ @ChessPirateā¦ my point was that itās fiction, and until such time when YOU write the screenplay, the story can go anywhere the current writer/director/producer/filmmaker/anyone-else-involved wants to take it. Regardless whether you like it or not. ā¦Itās entertainment, and itās all right if you donāt like it. But some of us like it for the entertainment value alone, and not the history lesson that you take it to be.
Reminds me of the idiot woman from Arkansas (IIRC) who wore her NG uniform everywhere ā complete with phaser II stuck in the pocket. She even showed up for jury duty thus attired (and āarmedā). Got tossed for contempt. I like Trek, have always liked Trek (when we got married, my wife and I selected Pfaltzgraffās āEnterpriseā pattern as our china service ā had to settle for the stoneware, though). But thatās going way the crank too far.
@ChessPirateā¦ I apologize for sounding like I was making it personal. I wasnāt. I just donāt understand when people get so up in arms about a form of entertainment. Itās supposed to entertain us, not make us implode because the story doesnāt follow where we think it should go. I honestly donāt care a whit about Star Trek canon. Itās up to me to enjoy the movie, or not enjoy it. I didnāt write the story; I am just the end user. ā¦So, when the story takes a turn in a direction we donāt like, we can always stop watching. Griping about it doesnāt do any good unless we (a generalization) have the power to make changes. And unless you (a generalization) are the writer, the only thing you can do is like it, hate it, or be indifferent to it. ā¦I liked the Star Trek reboot. I enjoyed the action. But thatās just me.

in a multinational corporation a lot of star trek dress uniforms would pass for some kind of asian formal business atire

I agree with the dog, I think the TNG-era dress uniform is best. The first ones, not the one with the white coat.

The first season only, I think. After that, it became one hokey monster after another.

thatās what I meant about the 3D for ST Into Darkness. It was used well and appropriately. It made some scenes so cool.
